Ok kind of weird question.....make fun of me if you want, I don't care....I have an 01 GAGT. It is in the shop, so I got a rental car. It is an 03 GASE, with the V6. Is the SE faster or is my car just worn out? The SE seems to be a little quicker.

hmm, maybe when your GT gets outta the shop, it will be quicker.

All, and I mean ALL rental cars are the fastest cars.
Why is the car in the shop?

Could just be that your car is in need of basic maintenance.

Car accident....I guess those front bumpers aren't as important as I thought. Some dude in an S-10 came into my lane and pushed the tire towards the engine and banged up the fender pretty good and ripped the bumper completely off. Luckily nothing too big.

SE- cheeper insurance. Someday I'd like to swap a GT tranny (and brain to compensate for gear ratio) into my SE. Ditto with front, side, and rear fascias.

Technically, stock for stock, a non-limited SE should be faster but a non-limited GT should be quicker.
But thats not always the case.

The SE has more aftermarket parts, but if given the same circumstances a stock 00 gt will beat a stock 00 se. If your really into modding for performance then get the se, but if you want to start with more ponies get the gt...:D

Im asking the same quesiton Kelly ;). I personally went with the Se because it runs just as fast as a GT, doesnt have the damn monsoon in it, is cheaper for insurance, and becasue it was the only car in my price range. Put it this way, in the local paper, a V6 GASE will run about 3-5000$ less than a GT of equal milage and year. I laugh at anyone who is willing to get that ripped off. Put it this way, the biggest difference between and SE and GT is the outside moulding. Change that, and you've got the same car ( hence why im converting mine to a SE/GT hybrid ;) )

If I end up keeping my car for awhile (which is up in the air....I really want an 80's era Camaro or Trans Am....), that's what I plan to do. I actually like the SE front end more than the GT, so i'm keeping that. I'd get the GT tail end, so I can do a dual exhaust. I'd also pull the SE side moldings off my car so I don't have the big "Grand Am SE" burned into the side anymore lol.
And then i'd have to scheme some way to make it even SLIGHTLY faster. It's surprisingly quick for a grocery getter....but....I find many other grocery getters that I can't beat....which angers me....

I just found out first hand the difference in insurance. A 2003 GT VS SE is a $59 increase on a GT. Also I dont agree that a SE is much cheaper than a SE. I go to pick up my '03 GT today with 5k and I got it from a dealer for 12.900. Search on the Net for cars in MN shows most in the 12.9 area to have 15-25k on them. Only a few knuckleheads are trying to get 15,900 on the GT. My intention was not a GT but Mileage and price was right. Where is the best place to get mods that dont void the warranty? How common is the Orange 03 GT or SE?

Gotta disagree with that. I had my 1990 GA Se on my insurance until I bought the 95. I did a straight swap. Took the 90 off and put my 95 GA GT on. Didn't cost anything to make the change and it didn't up my premium any.

Insurance rates vary by so many factors it is not possible to predict the rates someoone else would be paying. FWIW, there was a $500/year difference for me between a 1999 Grand Am GT and a 1999 Grand Am SE2. Add another $500 for each if I wanted a 2-door. Now that I'm older and married, those rate differences have lessened, but it is still more expensive for me to insure the GT than it was the SE2 with identicle coverage.

True. I've had the same insurance co for 6 years. I'm married with kids and had the same address for 7 years. And I'm 30+ (but whos counting).

It will vary depending on the insurer too. For example, when I got my GT, my previous insurer was insuring it the same as, for example, a camaro (sports coupe) but then I got a quote from Motors Insurance (GM's own insurance co) and they were insuring it as a mid-size sedan, same as a 4-door SE, and it ended up being less than half what my former company would've charged me.

I think the SE has like 180hp or something like that not sure on the new ones but the GT has 175hp so that really doesnt make a different.

According to the literature ... 170 for the SE and 175 for the GT :)
