Maybe its just me, but the GAOC just seems to ahve a much more pleasant bunch of members. I've experienced a lot of ignorant posts on the Jeep forum I belonged to, and the same on the Civic forum I belong to. Its almost hard to believe, but Its very true.

Grand Am owners are just nicer :D

I think a lot of it has to do with the diverse crowd we have frequenting this board, too. We have old folk, young folk, guys, gals: just overall a broad range of people. I feel like the diversity keeps everyone in check. The old guys keep us young guys from running amuck, and we keep them from being, well...old. :) Although, the mods do play a huge role in it. The guys here do a good job of letting things go to a point, but recognizing when a thread has become useless crap and no longer debate or intelligent discussion. :D

you know.... and I have said it before....

but the GAOC has to be one of, if not THE best internet message board.

This place rocks! I have personally been with it for a long time... the old phpBB boards... right after the move form Yahoo Groups...

it is the way it is run (Shawn and Kelly :)) the great moderation.... nobody puts there self "above" anyone else....

I am a regular at a Cadillac site... just because there are people with the same cars as me, LOTS of very helpful information.... and I have met a few friends along the way....

but at the Cadillac site, there just isn't a sense of "family" I know over the winter when I was driving my Oldsmobile, when I ran into a problem, I would post a question over there.... what do I get? the administrator, who I have talked with before (cool guy) would lock the thread and point me to his Oldsmobile site, which has about 4 regular members, and the same topics are "new" that were new 6 months ago.... all this and I donate $5/month to that place just to have things like, a signature and a little more storage space to upload pictures.

On the same note, I have came here... asked questions about my Oldsmobile or Cadillac.... hell even friends cars that are completly different... and all I get is help... NEVER did anyone, much less "management" ever tell me to stop asking a question because it wasn't about a Grand Am....

Also, at that same Cadillac site, there is a seperate room for talking about politics and religon and stuff (much like our great debate section) but something i have noticed, people get into way more heated debates there and it dosn't just stay in that room, it spills over into the whole site... and we have lost some very good people on that site because they are tired of the BS... either that or they hardly come around.

There is a very diverse range of people there too... from most from 16-65.... everyone gets along for the most part too.... but besides a few friends that I have made form the site, I don't really feel anything beyond that.

I think that is what keeps me, and everyone else that no longer owns a Grand Am here... it just makes you feel so much like a family.... I reccomend this place to everyone I know, people with Caddys or not.... one of my best friends is now a regular here (Haoleb..... has the Tundra) and even though he can be ignorant at times, I know he enjoys it alot too :)

Everything is really relaxed, lots of thigns slide and it is just a relaxed place to be.... I know 95% of my postings are in the off-topic room.... but I have been trying to get more into helping people and answering questions.... but even if it just comes down to me staying int he off-topic area, chatting with all my friends here, I will.

Plus the awesome meets in Albany... Especially in only 2 years, I doubt any other internet club has had such great meets, it really helps to get to know eveyone too.... even if I am the only DeVille in the middle of 60 Grand AMs.... it is still a great experience.

keep up the awesome work Shawn, Kelly and the rest of GAOC :D

This is the best place for so many people to get together and be constructive I've ever experienced. I belonged to a Nissan Altima forum and it seems like it's full of ricers so I quit that. The only other forum that I stick with is my school's car club forum. Everyone here is so helpful and everyone gets along so well it's great! I love this forum, I don't care what cars I own, I'll probably stay a part of this forum, barring I don't make an @$$ of myself, making everyone hate me...

The only reason I belong to those other forums is because I own a Jeep and just recently a Civic Si. and I only joined them for technical advice, tips etc. No way would I ever consider going out of my way to meet up with a group from either of those forums, but I have and will do so with GA Owners, esecially from this site(aka Albany).

I've looked at a few other places and joined a Toyota site that had almost 9000 members. But then the owner decided he wanted to charge people 50 bucks ( plus get some bennies ) to belong and post to the board.

So I joined in the thread saying that I will not pay 50 bucks a year just to post about trying to help people, and now that you have a 9000 member base even if 3000 pey the 50 bucks, you should be more than able to cover costs. As Costs was his reason for the joining fee.

So while I still go look to get hints about my car. I have not posted for a year or so. Some times it bothers me cause I know the answer they are looking for.

People are ok over there, but the boards are plain white, no color.....= boring.

It costs a lot of money to keep a site like this running. Unfortunatly, many admins use this fact to try to make money. I'd be lying if I said we didn't consider small membership fees, or a 'premium member' program, but we decided it would be best for everyone to simply implement some rotational banners. We've made the decision that the GAOC was, is, and always will be 100% free for our membership.

We get asked often if we will accept donations, and the answer is always, no, but thank you for asking.

Our banner ads pay the majority of our hosting, domain name, and software fees. If we asked for any more we'd simply be lining our pockets. And that's not what we're here to do.

I dunno if that toyota place your talking about is TundraSolutions, im a member there. They do have a 25 dollar a year fee for membership, but this is not needed to post in the forums. Only to get access to TSB's , Factory service manual stuff, membership how to's and such. And i have found it to be worth the money. Considering you could practically print out the entire factory service manual for your year truck, along with all kinds of other stuff its great.

IMO, this is my favorite forum. I may not have the enthusiasum modding my wifes GA as I used to, and I might have stronger interests else where, but no place on the web beats the GAOC. And I'm not saying that because I'm a moderator either. I have been a moderatoron other forums and simply turned my back on them because I disliked the direction they took.

Right now I am registered at about 16 different automotive/motorcycle forums and maybe truely active in about 6-8 of them. But I spend a good 70% of my time here at the GAOC.

All the time and dedication Shawn and Kelly put into this forumreally shows. They honestly care what goes on, something that lacks from most administration on other forums. As far as being 'fair' they are the most fair, forgiving and open minded people I have ever met. Anyone fimular with Sportbikes.net would know that you could have a perfect standing there but piss off the owner Fred just the right way and your gone for good with no warning. Something you'll never see here, not with flamers, trolls or even spammers.

The moderators here are very diverse. Some that don't know us may look at moderators as being 'clickish' but were really aren't. Alot of us may never agree on the same things, but that just allows us to do our jobs better by covering a vast majority of differences and styles of reasoning.

But lets not forget our members. Yes every forum will have that obnoxious member or two that needs to be dealt with, someone upset beauce no one wants to buy their ugly wheels, or someone that comes here simply to harrass other members. But a large majoirty of our members are not like that. Actually we have the smallest population of trouble makers than I have ever seen on any enthusiast forum. We are here to learn, and share information on a common interest, and for most of us that is what we want and expect. And our members are so diverse also. From all over the globe, from Mexico to Russia, Canada to Cali, young and old, men and woman, etc all help make the GAOC what it is. And without them the atmosphire would not be the same.

I agree with everyone said here. This forum really has a "family" feel to it. The only one I visit that comes close is regalgs.org, but it's also quite a bit smaller than the GAOC. Considering we have over 10,000 members here, it's amazing to think that the atmosphere is so warm.

I think that speaks well for all of us, the admins, mods, and the norms (can I call you that?). :) They say it takes two to tango, and they would be right. Even if the admins were great, it wouldn't help if the members had bad intentions...

I joined this forum a few weeks and i don't like it and understand it. yall need to go to dodgeintrepid.net and check out their set up. u can search and post in places according to your car year and it really helps when searching. the people their are nice and they won't cut your head off if you ask a question that is posted in the FAQ's. They will answer that same question over and over again. they helped me with my dodge until the end.(or when the tree fell on it). Go, i bet you would like it

Huh?! I just went and checked all your posts and didn't see ANY instances of where you were 'yelled' at for asking a question so I believe at least a portion of your statement is unfair ... while I can't say it has never happened, we try our best to answer any and all questions despite how many times they are asked ... We tried the seperation my model year, and it didn't work. Why? Because many problems span the different generations. Why would our troubleshooters want to look in so many different sections to try and answer questions that apply to a specific year? What you end up with is very little activity in the 'older' sections, and too much in the 'newer'.

We do have seperate sub-sections for the various engines, but even that isn't the best solution.

I guess you can't please everyone. :(

Awesome forum, love this place and will continue to come to it as stated earlier, its like a family, and you never turn your back on family! :D I joined the site(before we switched over a couple years back) and come on here daily, maybe even 5 times in a day just because posts can rack up so quickly. I would even pay some kind of membership fee to keep the site running, thats how much I love and just know I don't give my money away for forums at all but would this site. My love for the Grand Am came from this site. With 10,000+ members Id say most of the vetern members wouldn't mind paying cuz they feel the same way.

By the way,Ive been pushed down the "post-whore" list! IVe been fighting to climb and been doing it quietly!
