Do you suppose a 3100 out of a 2002 Monte Monte carlo would fit in a 1994 Grand Am without a whole lot of problems? Would it bolt up to the 4T60E trannie?

There was a guy from the old forum that had it done from a newer Monte (not sure if it was a 02) on a 95 3100 which is the same as a 94 3100 and same tranny so yes it can be done. Hopefully he will see this and help you out some more bud. But if you are going to do it just to get more power, the best thing would be to get the intake manifolds from a newer gen 3100 since that is the reason it has 15 more hp. than ours. But if you need a new motor anyways, it would be a good upgrade. Good luck :bigok:

From what I learned on gmforums.com, any 3100 or 3400 will bolt directly in. There are some internal differences as well as additional sensors for OBDII. Basically, though, you just ignore the sensors as your computer won't even know they're missing because it's original OBD-I.

If you install a newer version 3100, you HAVE to use the 'puter that engine was built with - you can't use the old one. The newer engines are actually more powerful than the first and second generation engines, and there are differences in the programming.
So you'll also need to make sure that all sensors are in place and working. Other than that, it'll be a simple swap.

Hmmm...I'm wondering if I want to go that far. Maybe I'll try to stick with a closer motor. I think I'll stick with a Vin-M motor.
