Is it worth it to purchase a 99 SE with 102,000 miles on it for $4800?

Hi Jerry! Depends on the shape and how 'clean' it is but 102,000 miles sounds a little high ... have any pictures of it? Is it 4-cylinder or a 6? What options does it have? Just a few answers and you'll be able to get a better response :)
BTW, welcome to the Club!!

Thanks,
I read thru the forum posts to get an idea of how the community is here.Seems to be excellent.
The car in question was listed at ebay, but didnt sell.
I have been to the dealer and looked at the car. It is clean and well kept.
I was concerned with the mileage and if the price was to high for the year. The last thing I need is to have to buy a new engine or trans in the next 6 months.
The link to the auction is listed below.

DYAM ... that looks clean!!!! Do you live close enough where you can drive it? It certainly looks interesting enough to take a look ... wonder if all the mileage was highway? Maybe you can get a better deal than $4900

I`m about 100 miles from the dealer.
I went and looked at it last Saturday. It was pouring raining, so i didnt get to test drive it.
I checked on carfax and it was a one owner car no accidents or anything.
The dealer lowered the price to $4800 but wouldnt go any lower.

That is one of the cleanest engines I have ever seen, short of when my car was on the dealer's lot with 42 KM on it. Incredible.

Wow..that is amazingly clean...
I wouldn't buy it without having a trusted mechanic check it out personally...that's a whole lot of miles for 5000 in my opininon....

... like I said, definitely worth a test drive ... appearance wise, it is phenomenal ... guess it all comes down to how it drives and if there is any warranty on it ... you'll also have to consider whether or not you are going to be putting a bunch of miles on it and if you have to finance the purchase ... financial considerations are one of the most over looked things as people buy the car not thinking and they take payment out over a length of time that the car won't last until the end or will start giving substantial troubles ... anyway, it certainly does look appealing!

It dosen't come with a warranty.
I will be paying cash.
Will put maybe 600 miles a month on it, if that much.

Not true ... 100,000 miles in stop and go is totally different than 100,000 miles on the highway ... end of story!! :)

I purchased the GA SE2 last saturday.
The dealer had two other GA`s for sell for less money, but they were 4 door sedans.I just wasn't feeling them.
I took a 200 mile drive sunday and even with 102k miles it still gets 27 miles to the gallon on the interstate with cruise control set at 75mph.
I only have two complaints tho, a soft gas pedal (causing ankle cramps I`m used to the firm Ford gas pedal) and oversteer.
Any suggestions of fixing these two quirks?

Suggestion on the Oversteer, you should have bought a GT. Much better handling. I know in older cars you can replace Springs to tighten up the pull of the throttle cable. I am not sure on newer cars like the GA. I would put a post in technical or ask the old farts section.

Ok guys I've had the GA for 28 days.
GF drove car, it overheaded and blew the headgasket.
I got a 2004 engine with 32k miles on its way to me.
Are there any preventive maintance/replacements of known failures that I should do before I put the engine in?

ah by overheaded you mean overheated i assume. That sucks = \.
Well thats a pretty fresh motor (I would love to have a newer 3400 dropped in, just because its got less wear) so I'd think you'd probably have to watch out for the LIM leak. I dont know what else you would have to look out for.
