Hi guys. Haven't made a thread in a while, so where could I go to get a chip for my 3100? I want the top speed and what not, pushed back. I already run premium gas so that won't be a problem.

what company would be the best for the money?

what does running premium gas have to do with anything? and at what legal racing environment are you reaching the governer?

Last time I read about it, the co.s that make chips reccomend the usage of premium gas, which was why I pretty much ignored them a while back, but for the past 6 months or more, i've been running only premium and the thought popped back into my head.

I'm not sure why they say to run premium exactly, i just know they said to, and getting a chip does other things to your car, like adjusting the fuel/air ratio and what not, so there would be a possible slight gain in performance as well as the reprogramming of the governer.

So, any of you out there who have added a chip, what are your experiences with it? what company did you go to?

HEY There is a site that makes a chip it runs about 200 dollars they spechalize in the 3800 engine but if u call they also have a chip for the 3100 and 3400. this chip will get rid of your speed govener. changes your shift points from 5500 to 6000 rpm's and changes your air fuel curve. i dont remember the site off hand i will go find it and post it up for u tmrw.

I'm not even sure what DHP is or what it stands for....nobody's ever really explained it to me.

You have a website for me?

DHP = digital horsepower; it's a company. not sure what years they reprogram for the 3100 now.. i know they don't touch my '95.

after '94 there are no more 'chips' per se - you have an EPROM that can be 'reflashed' or reprogrammed.

a 'chip' isn't worth it just for the governer. i'd want to change shift points too. it's hard to stomach off-the-shelf reprogrammed a/f ratios and spark curves without a tech ever seeing my car - i would want some kind of custom tune done specific to my car's mods.. something you would do after you're done modding the engine.

fastchips will reprogram but for $300 you don't get anything other than a governer delete.

don't ever drive over the speed your tires are rated for.

why do you run premium gas?? you have a low compression engine. you're wasting fuel.. unless you're just trying to retard some really bad pinging, it's a waste of $$ and resources. that topic has been covered several times.

You think so? I dunno, i just figured the cleaner the gas, the longer my engine would last....

and what happens if your governer is reset when the needle on the speedo reaches 110? I mean, you would hit the peg....that would mess something up im sure.

I'm pretty sure my tires are good up to 140, can't remember the exact letter but I think 1 under Z, and Z is 150. anyhow, not anywhere im gonna be hitting.

am not sure what you mean by that.. have you never pegged a speedo before? i've driven some cars with 80mph speedos and had them on the peg - nothing happens, other than the car going to fast, bad vibrations, hard to control the car, painful sounds in the engine.. basically dangerous and irresponsible behaviour, but it doesn't mess anything up.

use a gas from chevron, exxon, shell, cocnoco etc. with an additive for cleaning. high octane = burns at higher temperature; not necc. cleaner. probably dirtier since your engine doesn't burn hot enough to combust all of the fuel, actually.

realy when i go to the track i run 110 octane in my car and it runs great much better than if i were running 87 and it is much snappier on the throttle compared to bogging a lil more on cheap gas

higher octane gas does nothin but prevent detonation in high(i think) compression engines.....IE....lots of boost....it wont make ANY difference in an almost stock GA....whatver you experience is in ur head unless you have time slips to prove when u ran w/ and w/o in and ur time was better w/ it

No, i've never pegged the speedo. my car goes up to 115 on the speedo but only 105 for governer......

whats the fascination with going over 100mph? any car can do it

all the fun is getting there... but what do i know.

now trapping 101mph in the 1/4, that was a blast... driving 100mph is just silly on a highway,...
