Hi all,
I have been getting to know my 04 Grand Am & it looks like I have no ABS. ABS was standard in my 96. How can I tell if I have this? I can find no light on the dash or anything under the master cylinder that looks like my old GA. Thanks.

Do you have an ETS button above your stereo? If not, you do not have ABS. IIRC, GM made ABS an option on the 2003+ SE; it was standard equipment on years before that.

Thanks. I do not have ETS. I knew that but I was not sure if they were related as options. The car was sold to me listing ABS. I should have checked better. Thanks again.

Ditto. Anyone tha tknows how to properly control a vehicle without panicing does not need abs and can typical stop shorter than those with abs.

also if you have ABS your brakes pedal will say "Anti-Lock Brakes" on it, if you don't it will be blank

Rain for the non-ABS? Obviously from the south  The other minnesotans and the canadians I'm sure were thinking of the ice-slicked roads of December.
Turn into a corner, pull the e-brake, its so smooth its like ballet.
At least until you hit the snowbank.

Isn't there a way to defeat abs? I know my friend's mom had a '99 Mercury Mistique that if you did a special sequence with the brake pedal every time you started the car, it would disable the abs system. I wouldn't do it because abs is the one driver aid I like but every time I turn on the car I turn of the ETS.
It's really stupid the way GM made abs/traction control an option like that, it's been standard since when? The mid '90s or earlier? I should definately think it would be standard on any V-6 GA, come on, you guys have all that, that...what's it called? Oh yea, torque!!

defeating the abs is simple.. there is a sensor connection that goes to each wheel, just unplug one of them. without all 4 connections, abs will disable itself

Unfortunatly that will present an annoying ABS warning light on the dash. But it will effectivly disable ABS. :)
