It is approaching what is usually my favorite time of the year.
To me the month of April signifies National Hockey League Playoffs. Without the NHL i have been watching the AHL, which is competitve but not quite as exciting.
Without hockey the world is no good.
Does anyone else miss the NHL as much as i do?

... I don't watch hockey but I can sympathise with not being able to follow your favorite sport ... November to February is an unhappy time for me when NASCAR is in the off-season :(

NO problem brother ... almost everyone says that and to be honest, it does seem a little strange being I am only half an hour from Windsor, Nova Scotia (I assume all you Hockey buffs have heard of Windsor) :) ...

Oooo, looks like I fall in the same boat as kelly. I honestly dont really miss it that much. My Oilers havent done very well and usually I only watch them religiously near the end of the season where they try and make the playoffs, then loose to Dallas.

I can't stand the NFL offseason; I don't know what I'd do if I was a hockey fan.

My first hockey experience resulted in another little boy getting 12 stitches, as a result of my blade. I haven't liked hockey since. That was 26 years ago. Oh the humanity. I am hoping to get over it any day now.

I don't miss the NHL much, only the parties in Corel Centre suites ;)
I agree though, the best time of the year is just about ready to start: CFL training camps open on May 1st :D

:iagree: Personally, I'm alpalled by the greed on both sides of the table. IMO hockey will never be the same again. :(

The Whalers wouldn't have done this!!! Neither would have the Canadians, or the Blues, or all the other teams that are now non-existant or have a different team name... The NHL has lost all interest to me.

I just hope the Stevie Y will come back when (if) the NHL starts back up. I really want to see that man play again, and I don't want his last moments on the ice to be taking a puck in the eye...
The Blues changed name?
Anyway. I miss the hockey. I really miss it. It is just about the only sport I watch with any regularity. Since having to give up my mini-season tickets, and bar tending at the Corel Centre (Home of my team, the Senators. GO Sens!), I not only miss the games, I am now missing out on the revenue game nights bring. Triple whammied!
I don't miss the NHL one bit, buch of greedy jackasses can do another few year sof nothign IMHO, its just a game, too many of them have lost site of that and personally if they can't remember that its just about a GAME then I don't care if the NHL ever comes back.

I have to agree Blake, I am not a fan of the NHL myself I do like hockey just not the NHL, glade the playoffs are not crowding the TV. IT NOT HOCKEY I would rather go to a AA, AAA or in my area a QMJHL game.
But this year I have found myself watching curling.

Revising an old thread.
Ok....So the NHLPA and owners have come to an agreement. Hockey is back.
1)Will you watch, or attend Hockey games this season?
2)The owners or the Players accociation....Who do you resent the most? And why?
3)Should we, the fans, boycott Hockey for an entire year as payback?
I'll start.
1) I will watch, and or attend junior hockey games. Being a fan of the game...I adopted the Halifax Mooseheads (Quebec major junior team) during the NHL lock out. Even if it wasn't NHL calibur....it was good hockey.
2) I think both party's are to blame. I mean...It was all about money. However...I am a little more peeved at the NHLPA. A deal could have been reached last year...which would have given the fans a season. Besides....Did the NHLPA gain anything? NO. They assumed the owners would give in. But they didn't. The NHLPA bluffed their a$$ off for a whole year, and gained nothing. Real genius on Bob Goodenow's part.
3) I will not watch or attend a single NHL game this season. I realize my personal boycott will not accomplish anything. However...I'm so peeved by this whole thing....I don't think I could bring myself to watch or attend a single game ...without feeling ashamed of myself for going back to a league that didn't give a damn about the fans.
Side note. Shoot outs should never decide the outcome of a game. If it's a tie....leave it at that... or play until a winner is decided....just like in the playoffs.

Not a surprising thing for somebody from Ohio to say. Ahem!
Anyway, to the questions.........
1 - Yes. I will. Hope to get a new job so I can quit bartending at the Corel Centre and instead actually go WATCH a game and not serve beer at a game. HJockey is about the only sport I watch on a regular basis and I have missed it. And don't tell me poker is a sport! Damn! With hockey off the TeeVee can you believe how much poker is shown? Geez!
2 - NHLPA mostly, but more specifically Bob Goodenow. I believe it was his ego that refused to back down and accept a cap. Hey, Bob! Guess what? You have a cap, and a lower one than you rejected oh so long ago. Idiot! This guy should be getting the boot from the players. Or at least a few elbows. :D
3 - Nope. Bitch, whine, moan, complain, but go to games. Without the fans returning, cap or no cap, there will be teams gone. I still think there are a number of teams that are gone anyway, eventually. A lot of this was driven by American owners that wanted out. That's what I was told by a league official at the end of the 2004 season.

I like the fact how the NHL insists on "trying to make the game more exciting". Why are they doing this?? I know why.........because NHL HOCKEY SUCKS!!! I'm a huge HUGE hockey fan and I'm not affraid to say that in my opinion, after the 94-95 season, NHL hockey as slowly started to suck. The only time it starts to get exciting is around playoff time.
CHL hockey is the best in my opinion. These are young guys playing their guts out every game for 2 reason. 1) in hopes to get a pro contract. 2) for the love of the game!!
NHL players are lacking the passion of the game.
I think I'd have a break down that instead of making 8 million I'm now ONLY?!?!? going to make 6.5million?? Give me a break.
There's my rant :)

shoot outs are for soccer... they should never decide a hockey game... but that is besdies the point, i stopped watching the nhl after the whalers disbanded or whatever.

1) I might watch some games if I get really bored and have no good video games to play. I don't attend the Manitoba Moose games too much, it seems to me that whenever we start to get a good team Vancouver calls up a few of our good players to sit in the press box. Then we have a bad team for a while. This last season wasn't too bad, wish I went to some games in the new building but parking is a problem.
2)The NHLPA because they thought the skys the limit for salaries and it should stay that way. After hearing what Jeremy Roenick had to say about the fans a month or two ago didn't help.
3)If I could boycott I probably wouldn't. If the Jets were still here I wouldn't care, I'd just be happy they were playing again.
I don't like shootouts, never will. I think if the NHL really wants to be more exciting then they should reduce the amount of teams. There's too many now and it's really a watered down product with every team playing the trap to win. I really enjoyed hockey more in the eighties when Edmonton had a really good team and most games were high scoring and exciting.

... I didn't watch hockey before so I won't start now ... but, if I did watch it before, I "definately" wouldn't watch it now being how stupid this situation has been ... this entire event was about money and how greedy everyone involved is ... the Players wants to take it ALL and the League wants to keep it ALL ... it is simply amazing how little either side thought of the fans especially when you remember it is the fams who 'give' the money to both in the first place ... personally, I think both the Players and League organizers should be made to have a complete season for free to give back to the fans to whom they forgot ... they are ALL a bunch of whiny, immature kids :(
