Hi every body~ I am fresh new here, as a fresh new GrandAm owner.
I just made my decision in buying a Grand Am. And will pick up my sweet baby next week. It's a 1999 GrandAm SE.

But I don't have many ideas about this car before except I love her butt and the tail light~ And why I decided to buy this Grand Am was just because the Grand Prix I want to have was sold.... But after test drive, I like this car~ Especially it's a 2 door 3400 V6... I never owned a 2 door or V6 car in my life before although I have been dreaming about it all the time!!

I want to know What's the detail difference between a Grand Prix and a Grand Am.... And what's the difference from GT, GT1, SE, SE2.... These words is very complicated to me and confuse me as well...

grand prix- 3800v6, supercharged model optional, better built car. More options, all around a better car

grand am- looks nice, has good power, likes to not work right

GT- grand touring, generally has sunroof, all power options, nicer wheels

GT1- all power, sunroof, and LEATHER woo hoo

SCT- a GT with the nice hood and spoiler

SE- Shitty Edition (jk) looks nice, comes with choice of power or crank windows, some have power locks some dont, no ram air, no SCT package, not all have spoilers, and you either get a 3.4 v6 or a 2.4 inline 4

im not sure what the numbers mean after SE though
both SE and GT can look bad ass with a little work

I got some answer.... but gives me more questions...

http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7434

The GASE I got is just a "SE" badge on the back. Is it the SE1, SE2 you guys talking about is a different badge marked with "1" or "2", or just talking... and people can't find the answer while just looking at the car body?

After a very short time test drive, I only noticed that my SE have power everything, but without CD, only cassette and FM, no moon-roof, have spoiler, have course control but have no audio control on the direction wheel...

But this is right: no matter it's a SE1 or SE2, it's a great looking Grand Am

Thanks to blckgrndam99!

After pickup my car, first I will change the headlight bulb to white color. Than I will replace the air filter with a K&N product. I hope I can get these things in my neighborhood CAN-TIE.

And I want to know where can I buy the dark color headlight cover? Or I need to replace the whole headlight assembly? It looks very cool... But another question about this: will it decrease the brightness of the light?

You can buy the covers for the headlights but you have to take them off to drive at night. :)

SE1, SE2 and GT1 refer to option packages, there are no special badges that indicate which option package the car has. The only way to know for sure is to look at the window sticker that the car had when it was on the lot. The options included in the packages vary by year and by country of origin.

I'm reasonably sure that since it is an SE with a V-6 and those options, it's an SE1. I know just SE = base w/ 2.4L I-4, I believe SE1 has the 2.4 standard and the 3.4L V-6 optional, and the 3.4 is standard on SE2, this is all according to: http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/overview.aspx?modelid=2487&src=vip. Hope that helps.

I have an SE2 and the HP is 5 below the GT (170) and an SE has 150 ir so there is a difference there as well

hmmm i know theres been lots of threads about this but here we go again:
SE= 2.4L standard, manual optional, power features optional
SE1= 3.4L optional, power features optional
SE2= 3.4L standard, power features standard, GT seats/steering, steering wheel controls for stereo
GT= 3.4L standard, all power features, leather optional, GT body parts, "ram air"
GT1= same as GT but adds steering wheel controls for stereo and afew other creature comforts

the difference between grand prix and grand am (leaving personal preferences and opinions out) are:
Grand prix(97-02): larger/heavier vehicle. comes standard with the 3.1L in SE with the 3.8L as an option. GT comes with 3.8L, and the GTP comes with the supercharged 3.8L. there is some debate that the 3.8L engine is more dependable than the 3.4L, but im leaving all that stuff out of this comparisson.
