They used to do that in the 80's. Anyone remember the "Body by Fisher" logos w/GM My Olds had them. I see nothing wrong with it?

Oh well, at least they aren't putting it on Subarus, I wouldn't really mind it being on the key GM brands. Like the article said, most people don't relate a lot of the brands to the company. Obviously they haven't seen all the vehicles that share platforms lined up next to each other, then they'd know.

That's because GM doesn't own Subaru, it only has a 20% share in Subaru's parent company (Fuji Heavy Industries).

It's also interesting to see the move only affects GM brands sold in the U.S.

I know GM doesn't own Subaru, but it does have enough control over it to take the Subaru WRX wagon and rebadge it as the Saab 9-2X :cuss: But yea, it doesn't surprise me they're only doing it here, most consumers in other markets like Europe are actually smart enough to know that GM operates Opel (Continental Europe) and Vauxhaul (the UK) along with the usual brands. Most people here are like, "hey a Pontiac, that's like...a Ford, right?"

Oh, I almost forgot, also look for Subaru's first true SUV, the B9 Tribeca to become Saab's first true SUV too, the 9-7x :cuss: Sorry, I'm a bit of a Subie fan, and well, that stuff ticks me off.

Most people Know about GM and Opel (I Hope) the catera was an Opel, and Subaru were do you think the AWD system came from for the Van's and the Buick Rendezvous?

You know, I can understand a little sharing, Subaru makes one of the world's best AWD systems, but when you completely copy the entire car...I mean, the only ideal the Subaru shares with Saab is turbocharging, the WRX (RWD biased AWD, small displacement F4 w/ reasonable turbo) is against all the basic ideals of Saab (FWD or FWD biased AWD, small displacement inline w/ shop vac turbos), oh well, what you gonna do

Nothing wrong with sharing ideals and parts.
Where do you guys think the Iron Duke came from? One of the best 4 bangers GM ever built, or actually never built. Lets not forget things like the Fiero chassis, etc.

Yeah but that was a deal with FIsher carriage company back in the 20s IIRC. GM ended up taking over the Fisher Carriage company but allowed them to still work independately. I think it wasn't until the early to mid 90s when GM stopped saying "Body By Fisher" in the door sills.

Oh man, that is gonna be a badge to take off immediately... Oh well! makes it more fun that way. And yea, if you lined up a sunfire and cavalier most people would be like, hey those cars are similar!! but thats a pontiac!! wtf???!?!

Edit:: Didnt all GM cars used to have those nifty GM badges on the seatbelt?? I bet that was the only way most people could tell back in the day! That or they would think that GM was one hell of a seatbelt manufacturer.

Dad's old Monte Carlo and Grand Prix, not to mention his Skylark all had the GM logo on the seat belts. :)

You know, I've always wondered what those meant on the doorsills of my mom's Oldsmobile.

Anyone remember when Jeep used GM blanks for their keys?

On that subject! I want 2 GM blanks, a round one (for door key) and a sqaure one with a plastic cover (for ignition)... for some reason, the prev owners of my car didnt give me the original keys, I got some half arsed walmart cut keys.. one has a hole in the square part of it to distinguish door from ignition keys..
Which brings me to my next question.. didnt GM switch to a 1 key system in 96?? and my 97 car is stuck with 2 crappy keys! argh...

Sorry bro, but there is somethin wrong with your car. haha, my 97 GA has only one key, the one origional that i got when i purchased the car. I had one of those crappy Wallmart cuts made fo a spare, but i have one GM key that is still used for sunfires.

97's do indeed have a one key system. Perhaps your car is actually a 96 rebadged. It happens more often than you think. Under the hood it should have an emmision sticker and it will also have a build date on the door jam. The emission sticker could have been changed to meet the new year, but the build date should be accurate.

Are you sure they aren't the same key? My 97 has two keys of small normal size except the are double sided, but they were the same.

I guess I'm the only one who likes badges. I want to put some "16 Valve" badges on the front of my car like they were on the 92-95 Ga.
