Tansmission Troubles!

My 1996 Grand has about 107,000 miles. And last friday my transmission started to act up. It would shit really hard into secound. But 1st and 3rd were fine! So I took it to a local transmission shop. They told me it was the cylinoid that was broken. So today I bought a used transmission with 64,000 milles. I get it put it in thursday. So I was wondering if any other guys have had any trouble with this? The trany shop said this was an extremely common problem for 96,97, 98, grand am's.

my car always snaps into gear hard....When I bought it, I took it to a shop in town that said it was due to a lack of vacuum pressure in the control system. I dunno about that, but I like it because there is no lag in shifting gears like most automatics.

99+ too. I pulled mine out at 80000. Was noticing it hitting pretty hard going into 2nd. Can't you just replace the solinoid, if that's the only problem? That would have to be cheaper to repair than a swap. I found a new tranny on ebay so did not work on diagnosis.
