hey guys
ummmmmm in my 2002 GA SE 2.2 ecotec im having this really wierd problem. When im at idle usually when its warm-hot out my cars RPM just drops off from the usuall 900 to about 400 almost like its gonna stall out for a second or so. I can feel the car shake when this happens and its a pretty big concern of mine to figure it out. I took it to a shop but they cant get the probley to happen for them so they r useless to me as usual......... anyone know what this is? and or how to stop it from happenin. i dont want my baby to just die on me.

Thanks eh

As a start, get the codes read.

AutoZone/Checker usually have a loaner scanner (free rental, just put down a deposit).

Report back what codes are stored.

When is the last time the fuel filter was replaced. Sounds like it getting fuel starved, as it still fires so it has spark. Nothing should be changing in air flow at that point, so I suspect it gas flow.

hmmmmm thats a good question..... ill have to change that out and see what happens. But yea i was thinking the same thing it might be something to do with the fuel.
thanks

Did you replace the plugs? Crappy plugs will cause this problem so will fouled ones. Get some ACDelco or NGK platinum nothing else.
That would be my first try. hell for $25 its worth a shot and cant hurt.

Vacume leak maybe. Can be checked easily.

Have the Dealer check for TSB's or recalls (if they hadn't already). Sounds like it may need to be reprogrammed.
If no TSB's or recalls, try cleaning the throttle bore and resetting minimum idle speed, (need the procedure for that). Contaminated MAF or restricted air filter, duct or leak in ducting may cause a funky idle also.

My grand am was shutting off at idle like that after a couple minutes of driving then stopping at a stop light, the rpm's would drop to about 500 then it shut off. I replaced the spark plugs and havent had a problem since then. The gap on the spark plug had gotten to big, which i dont know how, but that fixed the problem for me.
