99 GA SE, 91,000 miles...Mobile 1 oil. I'm using 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. Cant even make it to 3000 miles w/ out oil light coming on while I turn a corner. Car isn't leaking anything, no blue smoke on startup, no smoke while its running. Engine coolant looks good, tab bit brown, but not frothy or anything.

Are there any check valves or anything that need to be replaced so many miles that could be causign this? Engine run as it always has...good power.. I dont know where the hell all my oil is going.. If it wasn't for the filter, I'd never have to change my oil w/ as much as im adding.

Anyone have any ideas? TIA!

Well, with that much, if it's not dripping it, it must be burning it. I would do a compression test to see if any rings have gone bad letting the oil pass and burn.

Take your IDI cover of (the thing that says 2.4L Twin Cam) and see if any oil is down where the spark plugs are, I use mobil 1 too and i lose about that much oil every 1,000 miles and it leaks out of the rear cam shaft housing in drips drown into that valley where the spark plugs are, then down on the the tranny.

My '96 Achieva would use oil like that. It leaks past the rings and valve guides. I used 20W50 in the summer to reduce it to a quart every 1500 miles.

I would check the level every 1000 miles and change it every 5000 miles. I got 186,000 miles on the engine when I retired the car because it needed more repairs than it was worth.
