Philly Area Caravan

Ok I know that I only know a few people from the boards, but was wondering if anyone wants to meet up and head up to this thing from the philly area. I live in boothwyn/chichester, which is about 20 mins south of philly down I-95. I'm thinking of leaving pretty early on the 13th.....like 5 am ish....just to attempt to beat the traffic and be one of the first people to get there......makes meeting people as they roll up alot easier.....anyone up for it? Also places to meet? Times?

well I'm already part of a small caravan. Im over in new york........by the bronx. I donno if you or anyone eles thats coming up this way wants to meet with me and travel up. We havent set a time yet really but i donno about 5am. I myself was thinking after the morning rush hour, but then again your coming from further south then I am so i guess you would have to leave earlier

That might be do-able....would just need to know where to meet up and all.....i plan on leaving here around 3:30, 4 am......that way I don't get stuck in all the traffic. 110 on the highway....lol it says it's a 5 hour trip....I'll make it in 3...

Depends....was wondering if it would be faster to just shoot straight there, or shoot over to meet you....I'm coming up from pennsylvania....hence the 5 hour drive...

It's not 5 hrs.. I've done it in just under 3 hrs from my house in NJ, n I'm another 1hr 20mins south of there.. but anyways..

I have no idea who is going n when.. there's a thread over on gagt too.

I guess you're referring to everyone that hangs out around Philly on a semi-regular basis... I think some would take offense to that - Everyone I know has always been welcoming to new people meeting up... but nobody ever does. But anyways... moving on...

As far as this meet - nobody has really made any decision. Most of the Philly peeps I know have been trying save cash / don't have time to go / etc to many shows this year. I'm trying to convince more people to go, I've even offered my 94 if someone who no longer has a GA wants to bring it.

I'm coming up Thursday (I'm short on vacation days this year). I will be taking the NJ turnpike to bypass 95. Quite honestly, the trip really isn't far for you... you may be better off just heading up yourself. (I am) In the past I've noticed that caravans for relatively short trips will actually slow you down... there's plenty of time to caravan with everyone once we arrive. :)

Yeah....well it's all straghtened out and all, just takes time to put everything back together......but as far as the money I had saved to make the trip, it's gone.......so I don't know....I may still come up anyway, but won't have any cash to do anything....so in that sense it would still be a waste.....cause I'll see everyone racing and partying and having a good time, and me sitting there on the side lines like the last kid picked for the baseball team or something.....idk....

... split a room with someone, spend $20 and register for the Car Show and you can stay the day with everyone and "chill" :) ... racing is a fun event too but it is just almost as much to watch others (yes, I will race but not ALL day as I like to mingle almost as much as drive :D) ... hope to meet you!

OK...i'm definately coming now....the nice people here helped me work everything out....now for anyone heading up from this area......i'm leaving here tuesday night or wed moring if you will at about 3 am....reason being? Traffic.....i've heard horror stories, and seen as how i hate people that drive slow, i go out when most sensible people are sleeping.....sensible one's being the slow one's....if anyone is up for meeting up and rolling with me or meeting me at a rest stop on the way or something, let me know......here's a link to the mapquest from my house....if any of these roads are near you, let me know.....email me, post here, im me, whatever.....so we can meet up and roll together.....i know this is really early, but hey...i've been waiting 6 months for this now....(cause i first heard about it six months ago) and i'm very impatient......

3am??? ur fukin insane.. screw the traffic horror stories.. it's a 4 1/2 hr drive from here.. but do as u wish.

Also, I looked at ur directions.. do NOT take 287!!!!!!! Idk why ppl insist on going this way!! It takes u 30 min outta the way [it does a horse-shoe]. Instead.. take 95/Turnpike to exit 11, hop on the GSP [Garden State Parkway] n stay on there til it ends, where it then turns into the 87/NY Thruway. Then, IIRC, the hotel is on the main street right off the exit.

Anyways, I gotta work in Wilmington on Wed til about 2 or 3.. n I may stop home for a bit on my way up to say hi, n I dunno if I'm gonna come Wed nite when my friend [who's coming] lives 1 hr south of Albany, so I may crash there.. I dunno... I'm so indecisive.

287 is better than 95. I-95 takes you way out East and near the NYC traffic. Don't listen to GrandAmChick, she is a NJ driver. :)

I didn't say 95. Of course he needs to take 95 to 287/GSP/[insert # route here]. 287 n the GSP are off the same exit. n 287 goes 15 miles/30 min outta the way!! Especially if he's leaving at 3am, he'll still beat rush hour, so he may as well go the SHORTEST/FASTEST route.

287 is fine, fast, always traffic free. It's not 30 mins out of the way, I took 11 to the parkway last time I went to albany and it added an hour and a half on to the trip.. screw the parkway

I'm probably going to head up in the afternoon Wed...it takes me 3-3 and a half hrs door to door from exit 4 in NJ . If anyone wants to roll with let me know..

Exactly, it was during the day.. there's a reason all the mapping programs say to take 287.. but whatever floats your boat. it ain't any faster to go either way

Ice....what time in the afternoon are you thinking? Cause if you're thinking like 3 ish, your going to hit traffic.....and i don't know about up there, but if it's anything like down here, people are stupid.....and don't know how to drive. Hence why the highway backs up and goes slow for about 5 miles, and then out of no where opens back up and everyone's back to doing 70 again.....need to stop giving licenses away in cracker jack boxes....but anyway depending on what time your going, i may meet up with you if that's cool....anyone else going up with you?

It honestly depends when I wake up.. the breaking point for me is 2 PM, if I miss that, I'll leave at 6 PM. Noone else going with me and I haven't decided which car to take but I'm def rollin up on Wednesday.

Lol....ok...no offense, but i'm not waiting that late.....i'm more of the "show up before everyone else" kinda person.....just don't wanna get there too early, and then possibly end up at the wrong hotel.....and the afternoon rolls around and no grand am's show up.....which would mean i'm seriously lost.....and don't have my carputer with GPS in the car yet....speaking of which....anyone know anyone who would customize the dash panel and put a touch screen in it? Kinda like macguyver's? (if you've seen his car....blue light special)

Wekk today is the final day....do some laundry, wash the car, take out the intake and clean the filter, vacumn it, pack, try to sleep (but i know i'm not going to be able to) and then get on the road.....anyone up for cruising up together or am I on my own? Actually just talked to someone I'm staying with....going to meet up with her, and then go to someone's house (can't remember the name) and help make info packets for everyone....that and this is my only "vacation" this year, so the faster I can get it started the better....if I have to sit and wait, so be it.....
