Is it possible to get 2 turbos into a Grand Am. I have a 01 GA GT. I am seriously thinking into this project. Just want to know if it is possible. What effect will my the Automatic have on the turbos? thanks

ANYTHING, is possible.
Would it be worth it? Not really.
With our cars the need for anything more than 10lbs of boost will call for some engine work. A decent sized single turbo will do just fine, say maybe a T-3. It's also small enough so you won't worry about much 'lag'. Plus you can always resolve that other ways like ceramic coated inpeller, or placing the turbo as close to the header as possilbe with as little pipe work as you can. A intercooler would be the best thing to invest in.

okay, what kind of engine work. I mean, will the 3.4 L be kinda useless. Will having 2 turbos make me have to change the engine, transmission. etc. ?

thanks

The 3.4L is not really built for heavy turbo usage I don't think. As TA^Guy said anything over 10lbs. would require a lot of engine over hauling. You can accomplish 10psi or < with just 1 turbo so what would be the point of 2?

If you plan on running mass amounts of boost then you should rebuild the motor with less compression (maybe around 8:1) and use forged internals. You'll also have to ahve someone do some computer work too.

The turbo won't kill the transmission, but the added torque will sooner or later. I don't remember how much, but the stock tranny is only rated to handle just above 200ft/lbs.

Some of the othe rforced inducted guys are working with a few compaines for a solution.

I seriously doubt the current transmission ( 4T45e ) and other driveline componants would last very long . As well as the engine having to be substantially fortified internally to handle the boost . Then the turbos , custom installation , computer etc. $$$$$$$

John , the 4t45e is factory rated @ 215 ft lb. :D

yeah, but wouldn't it be cool to pop the hood and show off a twin turbo GA?

I would never think about turbocharging my car :angel2:
