Question... My friend is giving me an 40 series off of his truck (he's doing true duals), does anyone know what they sound like on the 3400? I would have completely stock piping besides this...

Really good! I would probably go with a 40 or 80 if I had a choice and that's one of them...:D I think Peyman had 2 40 series on his and there were clips floating around somewhere...:)

I cut out the cat, res and ran a 40 series on my 97 3100 and i thought it sounded mean as hell. Very deep, a little raspy since it had no cat, but good. Sounded very clen when i had the cat in, still noticable.

I love my 80 series but Im sure the 40 is much more louder then the 80.Ive got a 4cyl so I think I made the good decision to go with the 80 because it is more quiet and doesnt get raspy, only when I first start it up and rev it,once it warms up its nothing but deepness

40 has same sound as 80, but 80 is a crossflow where the 40 isn't.

if he's going true duals wouldn't he need that one muffler?? you need 2 mufflers if you're going true duals

^ he's getting two new mufflers that are single in/single out... this one is a single in/dual out

What about running just one 40? Does it still sound good? And if you run just one do you run it WITH your stock muffler or do you replace your stock?

it'd be a replacement for your stock muffler

I was talking to my friend about it more, he says that he's heard it on 3800's and sounds great... although, I've decided not to do it because it would require work that I don't have time for right now.

Ok - so I too have a 40 series mufflera friend gave me. I have a GT that stock has one muffler with dual exhaust. If I wanted to get a deeper sound I believe I would either have to (1) run true dual 40's (two mufflers) or (2) one 80 with dual exhaust.

Is this correct? If so, which set up is the better of the two? Any other options?

http://www.exhaustsoundclips.com has a 80 series of our car and some others, honestly I wouldn't go with a flowmaster, I hate how they sound, too raspy. But maybe the clips can give you an idea.

80 series would be a better all around choice IMO. be cheaper, probably sound better, easier to install, etc

I would recommend NOT running true duals on your car. a single muffler is more than enough for our 3400's. note that you can run true duals with almost any muffler, and you can run a 40 series alone... you just gotta get the one with the correct inlet/outlet configuration for your application.

so either choose between one 40 or 80 series muffler, or else go find another brand that you like (SLP or magnaflow maybe?)
