Hey everyone, my girl friend has a grand am (1999) and it has the v-6 in it. I was just wondering i know some of them are the ram air model? is this hard to change hers over to this? I was thinking about buying someones stock ram air intake(if i can find one) that they took off for an aftermarket one. Would it be a direct bolt on if i find one or will it require some mods? Or am i just totally wasting my time with it and should i be looking at just getting aftermarket?? thanks for any help guys!

Don't even waste money on GT Ram Air. It's a marketing gimick. You are gonna be better off getting an aftermarket intake.

The engines in the GT and SE are identical , the only difference is the GT has the ' ram air ' intake and a slightly larger exhaust . The ram air would be an easy bolt on and if you want a factory look that's fine , but you'd be further ahead to just get an after market CAI intake and a CAT back exhaust system , both will outperform the stock parts .

To add my two cents to it. Almost all cars are psuedo ram air. they have to take air in from somewhere and to get the best gas mileage that usually involves a small scoop in the fender or a small scoop on the radiater. The GT ram air is a larger scoop feeding into a tube. It isn't sealed and it doesn't give much horesepower, but it helps with gas mileage and the small HP boost feels better than those without it.

I got some cold air tubing with blue couplers and Clamps. the only other thing you would need would be the cone filter. If you want I can post pics.

^^^ but those are pricey. I'll sell mine for dirt cheap. I'm thinkin about 45 shipped. When you add a filter on that, your still under 100. Got to plug my product as much as possible ;)
Let me know.

No, I bought one that you needed to cut the car to fit, so I bought another, now I just want warm air, so the pieces I'm selling are slightly used, have some scratches (you wont see many when installed) And will fit together without cutting the fender. However, one piece will need to be cut if you want a straight piece for between the TB and MAF

I can make the kit in my signature for you if you wanted...brand new. $165 plus shipping.
I made the kit that Tgussie just put in her car. No cutting to fender. Really easy to install.

I wouldn't call a little scoop in the fender or bolted over the radiator sealed up by the hood "RamAir".
The "RamAir" uses the entire grill opening to feed air to the motor.
The some 16-20 square inches for a inlet is a littl edifferent than say your typical 6-8 under a hot hood.
The ideal for the the Grand Am "Ram Air" works well. But main problem with it is that the tubing feeding the motor is rather small.

something not mentioned here is the availability to use a 96 civic short ram tube, run it into the fender, then put a cone filter on the end. at pep boys they sell that kit for like $65 with a cone filter. youll need to trim the openeing a bit, and youll need a rubber couple available at home depot, which is used to connect the cold air tube to the MAF. this job involves jacking up the car, removing the front driver side wheel and fender liner, and removing the entire stock air system. same procedure for any cold air intake kit.

Keith I didn't even see your post before.
I own a CAI kit from Red99GAGT and it's a prefect fit.
I highly recommend it.
