I have searched for an answer to my questions but haven't found anything that pertains to it. Most of the answers concern the '00-up cars with the single transverse muffler.
I know these cars have 2 small oval mufflers at the rear with the tailpipes welded to them. Is this correct?
What brand of muffler would sound good? I don't want anything that sounds(Dare I say it?) "Ricey"?
I know what a performance muffler will sound like for most V-8's but I'm not sure what to expect with a V-6.
I have a Magnaflow installed on my TransAm WS6 and love the way it sounds.
Kinda wish I could get the same sound for the GrandAm (wish I could put an LS1 in the GA:lol: )
Anyone have a good recommendation on mufflers that I will work?

Most people are going with a 40 or 80 series camaro style flowmaster. It will have a single in/dual out which will work for your GT. This will eliminate the y-pipe so it will flow a little bit better too. :)
Here is an example of an 80 series on a '98 GT

Hey Thanks! I never thought about doing that:hmmm:
Basically I could use the same tranverse muffler that i installed on my TransAm. There is plenty of room back there to install it. I love the tailpipe extensions the other guy used.
Now I just wonder what it will sound like with a V-6?
Maybe someone has a soundclip of what it sounds like?
Again Thanks for the idea's ( I don't know why I didn't think about doing it that way:idunno: )

Ryan,
Those clips sounded great! Thanks for sending them to me.
I like the way it sounded.
Not cheesy or ricey. This was the Flowmaster 40 Series?
Now was that with the Camaro muffler or the dual mufflers?
Still waiting to see what the Magnaflow Camaro muffler sounds like.
BTW, anyone know what the diameter is on the catback pipe? Most of the performance mufflers seem to be 2 1/4"--2 1/2" for the inlet size. GrandAm's may be a bit smaller,I haven't been able to measure it yet.
Thanks guys for all the help:thumbup:

NP...Yeah, those were dual 40's I'm pretty sure, so I don't think they were the camaro style muffler. I think they were single in/single out. The 80 series would be best if you want to mount it like the camaro, and 40 if you want to run 2 of them. 80 is usually quieter, and 40 louder. As for the pipe...go with 2.25, or 2.5 if you will be doing more engine mods...
