crank no idea, but you can get pistons from keith black, the silvolites are nice, but as i have said b4, for the money, the swap of a quad would be much better. The 2.5 we have is not the super duty and would not take much abuse at high power. An H.O. quad 4 will produce 82 more hp in stock form reliably. Id suggest getting one from a junk yard and swapping it.

i would run the quad but i the rules for my division won't allow it

i only had it out a few times last year and agaisnt the ford we are 1 tenth of a sec behind but they have there motors done up as much as the rules alow and i am running a bone stock motor ( haven't even cut the head yet) and haven't messed with the suspension that much. but that will all change this season

what times were you running?
and are you running an auto or manual?

we run 14.1 consistantly but my fastest was 14 flat on a paved 1/4 mile oval.
we run a manual. works better for setting the car for the corner

Your running 14.1 w/ a stock 2.5?
or am I missing something?

I dont belive it, what is this 2.5 in a go kart, there only 98hp, you must be doing something to run 14, cause a stock w41 calais runs 14.7 with a perfect driver on a perfect day. Your not running a stock 2.5 in a grand am and pulling 14's at all even high 14's. what do you realy have under the hood.

Actually I believe mine gets 110 horsepower.

the 2.5 ranged from the high 90's to 115hp at the most in stock form from 85-91.
You said you ran those times on a paved 1/4 mile oval, not a regilar flat drag strip. What kind of racing do you do exactly? Circle track or what? and are your times from a dead stop or are they measured after the car is already moving?
in a conventional 1/4 mile drag race those times are pretty hard for me to berlieve for a bone stock 2.5. but what ever your racing I'll give you props for hanging with "worked" cars in your stock 2.5.

Yeah that makes sense they must be rolling starts, cause there is no way that an iron duke is that fast from a stand, i dont care how much weight is removed from the car, shit if it was, id stick with my 2.5 instead of building the turbo w41 hehehe.

yeah they give about a half a lap to get up to speed. it is not from a dead stop or we would never hit those numbers with a stock 2.5. Sorry for the confusion. and it is a paved oval track.
Pulled the head off today and will start maching it tommorrow. that and with it being off an 87 2.5 it should bring the compression up quite nicely.
and does anyone one know if the the blocks that used DIS will fit and 87 head on them . Cause i want to run fuel injection but we were given a 91 grand am with no motor and we only had an 87 2.5 sitting at the shop

the iron duke lock will not accept the 2.3 head, to run fuel injection. and besides that its an over head cam, so theres a problem right there. For the iron duke, the only thing you can really do for performance is open up the top end to get the air in and out, there are headers at thefierostore.com the bottom end on these will hold to about 135-40 hp then your rods go through the block. If you want to bring up compression get a set ov keith black silv-o-lite pistons in higher compression, there like 285 for the set. A good PNP of the head with moddification to the exhaust should help more than you can immagine, i have a spare intake manifold if you want it, I dont know where your from but i live in CT. let me know, send me an email.

the 2.5 that was suppose to be in there was fuel injection. It is a 91 grand am that we are running. I am running a motor out of an 87 cause thats all i had lying around. that and i don't know if the early 2.5 heads will fit on the later block. And none of our shop manuals at work will tell me that. I want the early style head because the early heads have a smaller combustion chamber than the newer 2.5.
thanks for the info on the pistons. i will order a set tonight

Do you mean tbi fuel injection, how is yours set up if its not tbi, i know there are old iron dukes that are carbeurated, but i didnt know they were production.
fast 2.5

yeah i meant TBI
Yeah i am running a carb. A friend gave me the carb and intake So i could run the car a little. so weather it was in production i never asked but i know if i look in the manuals at work i could find out. I know Kansas racing products makes a killer 2.5 but just a little to much for me though

Man you got a carb on your iron duke, that is awesome, I would stick with it, the tbi is bullshit. If you can, send your intake to extrude hone, they will make the foker flow like no tomorrow, And i dont know if its legal in your racing, but how about an exhaust cut out, so you dont have to use a muffler oor cat on the track.
