Coolant leak near plugs

A friend has a 1997 Grand Am with the 2.4L engine.
When it is cold, there is a coolant leak in the area near the spark plugs, and it smells like it is also burning coolant. It will run like crap until it warms up, then the smoke goes away and the coolant "dries up".

I'm hoping it is only a blown head gasket, but what is the consensus of the forum? Warped head?

i guess if u are hoping it is a head gasket u are hoping it isn't a cracked head?? well it doesn't really have the symptons of a head gasked but i am not totally sure...good luck
