When I start my car my cooling fan comes on immediately. Shouldn't it only come on intermittently when coolant temp rises too much? Has my fan relay gone bad or is it some temp sensor?

Could be either, but my first guess would be the fan relay.
Might find one at a junk yard for cheep just to test it.

Do you happen to have your A/C on?

Not sure, but find the fan, find the wires that hook to it. Fallow them back to the relay.

On my '96 Achieva, the cooling fan would come on whenever the "Check Engine" light was on. The car reverts back to a default mode if there is a emissions error.
Try having the codes read.

Also make sure that the A/C isn't set to the windshield defrost position, that automatically turns on the A/C compressor and therefore the cooling fans.

Is there any sort of self diagnostic the cars do when they start?? If that's the case maybe it just.. overdoes it with the fan? A fuse, or a relay or somethin?

my car ('94) does this too. after i start the car, 30 seconds later the check engine light comes on, then the fan. i know i have to get the code(s) read. i'm interested to see if anyone else had this problem?
