ok so what is the dal with the new 3500
it has a different intake manifold and exhaust manifold.
there is also .10 over bore on same block? with same stroke
with a 9.8:1 compression
now where do they get all thet extra HP and TQ from?
from .10 over adding compression or from different heads?
Exhaust manifolds look like headers that has to help?
A larger plentum for the intake manifold?
Maybe larger TB?
now Is it possible to do a 3500 intake manifold swap onto a 3400?TB bolts different?
Will the exhaust manifolds fit because the go under the car not arund the trans. or is a new oil pan needed? maybe cheap alternative to headers?

Electronic tuning (PCM) is the big one.

They did a few things right with that engine. For one they no longer have the logs passed off as exhaust manifolds (at least from what I've seen in pics of it). For another they use a much higher flowing upper plenum designed for a higher peak HP (the 3100/3400's are made for higher peak torque with longer runners) and they come stock with a "65mm" throttlebody.
And before anyone asks: No one knows how hard it would be to swap to one in. Same bolt pattern for the tranny as a 3x00 but many changes to the sensors and such.

i was actually contemplating the upper intake swap..but right now i just need to save my $. (wow what a concept-thats something ive never done before.)

i really just want the exhaust but will it fit?
have to wate for a wrecked malibu and steal the exhaust and intake.

Go and search on 60degreev6. There are some people working on the UIM swap which seems not to hard to do, As for the exhaust I have not found any info. They also changed the cam specs. Lots of info on that at 60v6.

www.domesticperformance.com is supposed to have ported 3500 upper intakes modified to fit around the FPR on 3x00's sometime in the future. They also have billet throttlebodies available that allow us to use them. Although keep in mind that billet TB's are much more coin than a bored out stock one.

They may also have stock 3500 TB set up to work with mechanical link throttles. I just saw a post from them on GAGT but I cannot find it just now.

I'd be more concerned with the exhaust, heck, I like my torque, it helps the tires break loose. I didn't buy a nice set of SE rims/bf goodrich ta tires from the junkyard for nothing!
What about the 3900, I heard that's based on the 3x00s too. Are they keeping the 3800? That's the best (beep) v6 GM has ever built, and likely will ever have built.

The 3900 produces 240 peak HP while naturally aspirated. The 3800's only make that much with the supercharger. The 3900 might also bolt up to the 4t40/45/60e trannies but it has even more electronic goodies to worry about than the 3500. Things like VVT and the dynamic intake plenum.

I was wonderin how hard would it be to put 3500 heads on a 3400 ?? and what all would i need to do it.

you did some searching...good job, but theres lots of posts on it. it has been done since this thread was started (over a year ago).
check 60degreev6.com for some details on it.

Yeah the cam phaser on the 3900 will really throw you a curve ball--that will make it particularly difficult to integrate into an older car (at least if you want the VVT to function which is what helps it get those higher hp numbers).

3800 is still there for now, and note it's a completely different engine. The 3900 is inded a 60* V6 based on the 3100/3400 while the 3800 is a 90* V6. The 3800 is indeed one of the best V6 engines GM has ever made and quite possibly one of the best V6 engines ever made by anyone...
