Thats really up to you.... I have been kickin that around for awhile now, If I actually do get one, probably AEM for me....The I.D. intake is even more overpriced.....It's all personal preference really, alot of people are probably going to tell you to build your own, which is also a good option. I just don't know If I want to dump any money into my GA, I may just trade it on a WS6 TA.

well i dont think there is a CAI out there that fits the ecotecs in the nbodies, but im sure a WAI from a cavi will work

Actually AEM makes one that will work, and Induction Dynamics makes one specifically for the GA ecotec.

Hey, new to the GAOC Forums. I havent been able to find a 2.2L Ecotec CAI. Ive searched everywhere. Ebay does offer a WAI for the ecotec but i dont think that i trust those.

I found this interesting on the GO (Grands Ontario) Board. It's 3" exhaust tubing.

This one was on ebay with a throttle body - $500

how much does the CAI actually improve performance? What all does it do for my car? SOrry, I just dont know anything when it comes to cars

A CAI improves performance a nice and reasonable amount. I dont know the exact numbers but with how it works i know. It sucks in colder air further away from the engine(usually near the wheel well or down near the bumper). The engine raidiates heat into the engine bay threw the block and exhaust manifold where if you have a WAI gets sucked into the inlet path. But cold air which is more dense than hot air alows more air and oxygen into the combustion chamber without increasing the actual inlet diameter. Due to the increase oxygen levels to mix with the fuel you can creat more power per combustion. Also i think that once ur cars computer adjusts to the extra air levels u will use less gas(if ur peddle foots not retardedly heavy). Just becareful about driving threw puddles and in snowy conditions(if u have these) sucking water up into the intake will cause not nice things to happen to ur engine. I have a WAI and i could just as easly turn it cold air by building a heat shield around and behind it effectivly cutting off the hot air from engine bay. So there are a few ways u can do it

I have the Weapon R Short Ram and I've been having problems with heat soak. I was going to fab a heat sheild but now I've decided to take out the piping that reaches behind the battery and cut it off so i have a 90 degree angle and then i'm gonna tuck the filter right behind my fans. That way the fans are throwing air at my intake so it's basically a ram air. The filter will be at the coolest point in the engine bay, it'll be extremely short and it's a lot further away from my headers. It's got the motor itself as a buffer. I'll let you guys know how it works and get some pics.

This is going to be good.....

/\for sure, I wish him Godspeed but I doubt it will work. I always thought air fresh from the radiators was hot.

lol that home made intake was mine. dont know where you got the ga ontario thing from from. im 100% American. anywho that intake was dirt cheap and pretty cool. i heard a really nice sound from the intake and when i switched over to my aem i noticed a los on the lower end. top end is 10 times better.

this website says the secret weapon r intake is a cold air intake with size of short ram...is it really cold air intake? anyone used or installed this intake. it says it fits the grand am ecotec, but does it need any modifications to fit?

/\granddamn, I think there is more gains to be held with that goofy elbow thing by the TB, I think that plastic piece is stock, isn't it? It looks awful restrictive in the pics. just an idea.

the plastic piece is not stock but it definetly looks like a dampaner to me.... but as with the rest im assumeing its alum. Maybe a custon fabbed stainless tubeing would have offered better heat soak resitance?

the problem is, and thats the AEM intake.. look at my pics above, its a cavy intake thats slightly modified to fit..

but the problem is why that piece is plastic is that the bend is so tight that you couldn't do it out of metal, it would just crimp off, so its plastic, and no its not restrictive at all, its the same diameter as the rest of the pipe that runs with the intake, just the plastic is molded like that to fit.

love the CAI, great tone, best high end performance!
and they said on AEM's website that the cavy one is about 8hp and its dyno proven.. so look at around 6 on ours.. maybe
and torque goes up also!

sorry to correct you but your wrong. they could make anything out of metal. the difference between the aem and weapon r is the aem has alot more research in it then then weapon r. notice the "restrictive part" you were talking about. its sorta like a loop because it is a smoother bend for air instead of a 90 degree bend. also it is plastic to absorb less heat from the radiator. weapon r dosent even use a real dyno to test thier intake. your really comparing a benzo and a kia here
