Has anyone converted thier radiator to a open system????
After years of messing with a purge tank that refuses to hold up for more than 5 years at a shot (without developing a leak) ....I was considering changing over to a open system...unless anyone knows of a reason why thats horrid :banghead:

Why would you want to revert back to an old archaic system ? Coolant would be lost onto the ground instead of returning to the rad after expansion .

to the ground??? it would go in a unpressurized overflow tank...

it really depends on the application, old 1952 Ford 8n tractor- it spits coolant out and you can watch it dribble down the side of the radiator and onto the ground. Most cars I've seen with this system DOES have a jar or catch can of some sort.

Of course, a GA isn't a piece of farm machinery. But you would need a radiator with the cap on the rad itself, and not the puke tank.
