swapping a SC off 3800s into our 3400s.

I heard this idea being played with before, but I wonder what exactly would be involved, and if there is enough interest, would it be viable for the performance aftermarket to develop a complete or "get your own blower" kits.

It is not physically possibly to get the SC off the 3800 to go on the 3400, it just isnt possible.

whoa! slow down...

first off anything is possible. just improbable or unlikly

financially it would be extremely hard to do however think about transplanting an entire engine... lol... it might be easier.

no its literally impossible, the 3800 is a 90* engine, the 3400 is a 60*, the supercarger/intake manifold, is too wide to even have a chance of making it work. it is IMPOSSIBLE to make it fit on a 3400.

ok... so who says you have to use the intake manifold from the 3800? the degrees has nothing to do with the supercharger.

more than likely you would have to make your own manifold for this sort of thing. usually you can use a supercharger or turbo on any application as long as you can match up the bolts.

because on the 3800 it uses a Roots style blower, which it essentially is the intake manifold. it just will not work.

IMHO it's not worth it.

you can make an addapter flange for it, i remember seeing a montie carlo with a 3100 or 3400 in it and the 3800 SC on it, but there was clearance issues with the hood since the flange he used was so tick the hood didnt close. So you can do it, you just need to figure out how to make a flange that will give you a transition from the ports on the supercharger to the ports on the engine

if you could make it fit, it might hit the hood

well here you go it was a z26 with a 3400 in it. anyways it CAN be done (92CamaroRS) http://www.angelfire.com/super/ghettoretta/m90/sc.htm

ok you proved me wrong, but hell, a 6" cowl couldnt even close on that, its pointless, your better off to just get the RSM set up and keep a hood.

$10,000!!!!! I just saw that. For that much you could swap a 3800 in. Then have money left over to fab up a 5-speed

generally speaking turbo's are easier to put on our engines due to the fact that our belts are on one side and our throttle bodies are in on the other side, coupled with very little hood clearance yeah a space saving turbo would work well. but you won't get that low end power feeling from a turbo either.

i love the originality, that guy ahs some skills, butttt, as cory said (in so many words), its retarded to have the entire s/c sticking out of the hood. he could have tried to stick the s/c in there, and tuck it lower, more towards the front of the engine, so it could be enclosed somehow, but now its veyr unlikely he will find anything that doesnt look incredibly stupid to enclose that s/c. but you have to admit it looks effing badass. love it

There actully has been one person that i know of use a L67 supercharger on a 3400. A guy by the name of McGavin did it, but he had an internship with a very extensive machince shop at the time.

What does the roots style have to do with it? My supercharger is also a roots style, but obviously doesn't use the intake manifold.

The majority of roots style blowers(including the s/c on the 3.8) are integrated with the intake manifold.

A procharger would be the ideal fabrication. Once the T/A is to where I want it my next project being considered is a 3.4 DOHC from a 90-94 Z34/Grand Prix.

PROCHARGED!!!!!

Built Getrag 5 speed.

Hey, what do you think it would take to swap that supercharger on my car. I think i can use an intake manifold off the earlier bonnivelle w/ the SC. I talk to someone about this and they said that the M90 off the newer GTPs would be perfect for a little 3.3L. I have a spare set of heads so i could port those to match the intake. I just don't know about the cam and/or the computer, or if i would need larger valves.
