Even rarer than that, IIRC. Its a 1987(am I right?) Hurst 442 Cutlass.

This is an 83 Hurst Olds, 15th anniversary. A bit of info on this. They made 3001 of these cars ( most people think 2500) in 1983. this is number 2586 of 3001 , they made 186 for Canada and this is 086 of the Canadian production. A bad picture of the Hurst lighting rods , but I will blame that on the camera.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks Jayhawk, I think I should pay more attention to what I am doing.
They also made 3500 in 1984 with the opposite paint , grey top black bottom.
they only made this style of Hurst for the 2 years. they are similar to the 442's but the Hurst has the rear wing and the lighting rods.
The Grand National was produced at a rate of at least 10,000 a year minimum, but the GNX is real rare at only 500 produced.

Lightning rods, I think(not 100% positive) that when you push one forward it shifts to that gear right? kind of like a ratchet shifter.
On another note, i know someone who has one of them, except he put in a BUILT 403, car has somewhere in the area of 450-500 horse. compared to the lower rating of the stock 307.

Correct on the shifter, a stick for every gear selection..1st to 2nd...2nd to 3rd...3rd to 4th ... It is only fast if you compare it to other stock 1983 cars. In the earily 80's there was a lot of polution crap that the car companies had to deal with that robbed alot of power, these were rated at around 180hp which is nothing, my new GA has 175. Most of these cars have been switch to more powerfull engines or had the carb and ignition switched to something more reliable. this one is all original, including paint that is badly laquer checked and has only 97,000 KM....around 60,000 miles. The Grand Nationals are alot faster and worth more money. ( I don't know why, because of the production figures).

you can figure out what number it is when it was produced, by looking at the VIN, it wont be out of GAGT or GASE thought, it will just be out of GA's.

I don't how well the vin sequence thing works , I tried to make sense of it when I cam across other 83 H/O's at shows and stuff. The numbers were very random for this car, it may work well on other models.

Nice Olds, there is a Gold one in this area for sale. There is also a Pontiac 2+2 both I'd take a look at if I had the cash to spend.

Well the GNs were faster because the motors were only a V6, weighed less and put out more power.
The first Grand National was built in 1982, only 215 were built and 16 of those had a carburated 3.8 turbo.
No GN for 1983 but the first years of 'black' in 1984 there were 2000 built with a 3.8 turbo with sequential fuel injection. A setup that was decades a head of just about any other performance vehicle on the market in 1984. Even the Corvette didn't have it's self didn't have sequential fuel injection until 1992.
1985 there were 2105 (IIRC) GNs built.
1986 about 5,500were built, this was the first year for the intercooler.
1987 was the big production year as over 20,000 were built and sold. Best year too as it made the most power with small rtweeks over the previous years.
The GNX was built in 1987 by ASC/McClaren with only 547 units produced and sold.
All the GN power numbers were greatly under rated to keep the Vette the top dog in the Generals Army in black and white ink. Not to mention the 3.8 Turbo motor was extremely strong adn very easy to get mor epower out of.
Compaired that to the 442, 2+2s or MonteCarlo SS Aerocoupes it's obvious why the GN is still sought after more.
bet you couldn't tell I used to own one hu? lol
