Hey, guys. I've searched through everything at least twice and found most of the answers to my questions, but still can't find a couple more. The first is: How do I get that stupid cigarette lighter out of that part of the dash? I'm wanting to paint it, and don't want to paint the cigarette lighter or the part around it. The second is: How do I get the rest of that part of the dash off? the center console where the arm rest/e-brake/shifter is at. I want to paint that, too. The third [and last] one is: How do I get the round air conditioner vents out? I don't want to just try to pry it out, because I don't want to scratch the dash or something. Can anyone tell me which side of the vent the clip is on so I won't break anything?
I'm sanding everything [that I'm painting] down smooth, and I've heard that not many people do that when they paint their interiors. I'll post pics as I finish things. I've been working on the rear door handle inlays for like 6 hours now sanding them down perfectly and primering/painting/clear coating. The clear coat I bought the first time doesn't 'shine', so I'm having to do them again with a new kind. Hopefully this one will have some shine to it..It's the Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic stuff.
Thanks in advance. :D

If I remember correctly.. the tabs are at 2,6,and 9 o'clock. poke it with a long thin srew driver and pull the center fin at the same time... got them out for me...

1. tape off the cig lighter w/ masking tape
2. link with pictures (http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27588)
3. Shine a flashlight in there and you can see them. If you want (since you probably already have some stuff out of the car), it might be possible to push those tabs from through the cd player opening. of course, this means taking out the cd player. you should be able to push the tabs on the single outside vents through the bezel around the speedo and the glovebox if you take them out.

1) the cigarette lighter part doesn't come out, i don't think....i just placed a quarter over the top of it and it covered it perfectly....
2) the center console is held in by bolts in the cubby hole and then a bolt in each cupholder underneath a plastic cover (at least that's how it was done in my 97)
3) and just what rob said, there are three tabs that need to popped open. i took a metal coat hanger, bent it into a loop and usesd that to pop open each tab....
best of luck and post many pics!!

yeah, the metal coat hanger (bent tip) made it easy. 3 tap, just put the bent tip to pull up on the tab (not to hard) and pull slightly at the same time. Then proceed to the next tab (on the same vent) and do the same until all tabs are up. the just slide out.
I am purchasing a compressor this weekend from a friend. I will be painting my interior but using a spray gun and my car code paint to match the colors. I am also going to paint the trim around the front windshield (the side parts where some people put their gauge pods).
Hope it comes out nice, but I will be putting a thin coat of bondo over them to get them nice and smooth. Maybe I can do other peoples interiors and make a bit of cash on the side.

i dont know about most of the stuff, but the vent rings are easy to get out. grab a flash light and look into the rings, you'll see 3 tabs on the sides of the rings. go break a coat hangar, bend one of the ends into a hook, stick it in the ring and pull the tabs up and out little by little, working your way around until they all pop up. then grab the ring part and pull it out. voila. the taking them apart is self explanatory. just be careful to no break the tabs. :D it doesnt take long to do.

I got the cigarette lighter out. I don't remember how I did cause it was 18 months ago but it wasn't easy. I had to press in on several tabs at the same time.
It easier to tape it off and paint around it.

Thanks for all the help, guys. :D I really appreciate it! I'll post pictures as soon as it's all done, which will probably be a couple/few weeks because I don't have much free time. :P

I have another question. I'm trying to get the console part out and I can't get the bottom of the cupholders out. Someone said there was a bold under each cupholder, but how do you get the bottom out? Thanks in advance.

That website helped me out a lot last summer... anything not on it, post it, chances are, if I didn't remove it, someone else did :)
