Hey,i was wondering if a 3100 upper intake manifold and throttle body from a 2001 motor will fit a 98' 3100 motor. If so,are the gaskets the same or what year would i need to get?Trav

would the 3400 lim uim and tb make more power by flowing more?

it'll help out some...the tb is 4mm bigger...and the upper and lower intake's are slightly larger than the 3100...i'm not sure what kind of difference bob got with the swap, but it might be worth it...he ran into a few issues with it, but nothing that couldn't be solved...

if you are going to put in the newer tb/uim, you might as well find a lim and swap that while your at it. otherwise, the new uim and the old lim are going to have different size openings which might hurt air flow....if i'm wrong on this, someone correct me....

If you swap everything including the cyl. heads you'll see roughly the same power as the newer, large-port 3100's rated at 175 Hp and 195lbs ft of torque. You'll maybe see at most a 10-13 HP gain if you swap the manifolds/TB but not the heads.

if you can pick up the manifolds and throttle body cheap enough, not a bad little hp gain by it. i think bob picked up his manifolds/tb for like $40 or $50 i think...he got his out of a 00 or 01 malibu i believe.....

Swapping the heads would be a good idea , otherwise the ports will not match without some work .

Thanks for the info.If i get the parts,it will be both the upper and lower manifolds and the throttlebody.Do you people know about how long it would probably take to swap the manifolds out?As for gains you say i would get 10-13hp correct?I think i will definently go for it if that's the case.Trav ;)

I forgot to ask you guys what problems or modifications i will need to make in order for this to work.Trav

The one mod you need to do that I can remember is that you need a 1/2" NPT hole tapper for the coolant line on the lower intake manifold. The old 3100 coolant line is threaded while the newer manifolds used a push-in fitting. If you don't have one handy try an industrial supply store. It's not easy to find in a typical home hardware store.
