i was wonering what would sound better 1 sub with 500 watts or two subs with 125 or a little less going to it. I was just wondering if it would be better to use one or two subs with the little amp i got,
it puts ou 500 rms to one channel or 125x2 rms, 500 watts may be the max my sub will take-a jl audio 12w3.

well to find a sub that only requires 125 watts is very hard... so you would be under powering by a fair amount which isnt good at all... but when it says 500 watts is that 4 ohm bridge or 2 ohm or what.. because then you have to decide wether you need a single voice coil or a dual for the sub.

Also having 2 subs like that would provid a bit more bass a real low volume but just get 1... for sure... or get a new amp... dont get 2 for that amp..

UNDERPOWERING A SUB WILL NOT HURT IT IN ANYWAY.

Anyway, what kind of box would you be using? Ported or Sealed? It would be a close race if the subs were in the same type of box with the same volume. I have my MTX Thunder 8500 12 up for grabs. Its rated at 500 rms.

yea, underpowering a sub isn't bad, but it actually can burn up the amp because the amp isn't producing enough power for the sub. Your pretty much in the same boat as I am in. Ive got a 4channel Alpine amp with 1 JL 12W0 sub with 1 and 2 channels bridged but think I am still not getting the full potential so I might go with a mono channel amp. That way I can still get another sub and just wire them down to 4 or 2ohms
