ok, I just ordered an amp and I have a question on the wiring. Its my understanding that I wire the speakers to the amp then the amp to the headunit, using speaker wire for speaker to amp and RCA cables for amp to headunit...is that correct?

If so, what do I do with my pre-existing speaker wire from my headunit that went to my speakers? Just tear it out?

first off are you using your factory head unit.. but by the sounds of it you arent

Mount the amp where u want.. run power wires one side of the car and RCA cables on the other side..

You will using speaker wiring from the amp to the speakers you want hooked up... From the deck you will only run the rca cables back to the amp

As for the existing speaker wire best to either electrians tape the connectors together and keep the good and snug where they are in case you want to sell the car and go back to using just the deck.

So ya.. speaker wires from amp to your speakers and rca cables to the deck.. also the remote turn on lead will come from your deck

Also need to run a power wire back from the battery to where you amp is.. also either make a ground or use an existing bolt somewhere close to the amp (no more than 3 feet) clean the surface where the head of the bolt contacts.. and make sure the bolt connects into the fram or a solid piece of metal. And just keep the RCA cables seperate from all the power wires

You also forgot the wire that runs from the ignition power, to the amp. ;) So that you dont have to have your amp constantly draining the car battery.
