lol, just like the title says... Right now I have an 8ohm JL 12W0 sub woofer which is connected to a 4channel amp which I am bridging 2 channels. I dunno exactly how many watts its putting out with just a single sub but I had my stereo measured and hit 127.8 db's so its a pretty good amount. My question is, if I were to get the 4ohm JL12W0 instead, would it hit harder? Or should I stick with getting another 8ohm since I got 2 more channels I can bridge?

It might hit a little harder since a 4 ohm will get more watts from the amp.

How many watts is your amp bridged? Or...why not just give the model number.

You could get another 8 ohm sub and wire it in parallel and pull 4 ohm from the amp.

Running a SINGLE 8 ohm sub really isn't ideal for car audio. They are good for running MULTIPLE subs set-ups though.

You could really get 3 more of them and run 2 off of each bridged channel if you wanted. That way each bridged channel would be seeing 4 ohms. We need to know the specs on your amp first though to make sure it has enough power.

MRV-F250 Thats the model # Ive tried looking it up but never got detailed information on it since its discontinued and prolly a few years old. So if I got another 8ohm sub what type of setups could I run with the 2 subs and amp?

If you run the +'s together and the -'s together in parallel...then you'll pull 4 ohms.

Look at it this way....two subs running at 4 ohms...each sub will be gettin as much power as your one sub running at 8 ohms.

But either way...you need at least 150 watts rms for that sub. I'd say more around 200 would be nice.....which I dont think that amp will even come close.

edit:

The amp is 60x4 or 160x2 @ 4ohms. What you really need is to get 2 4 ohm subs and run 1 off of each bridged channel. Running that sub @ 8 ohms it's probably only getting around 120-130 watts... not enough. A single 4 ohm sub would be getting the full 160.

oh ok....Well the the 1 sub Im running hit 127.8 db's so its not that bad sound wise. So If I run the subs parrallel, how do I wire them to the 4 channels? I haven't delt with multiple channel amps before so this is all kind of new

Just as a note...that amp is SEVERELY underpowering that sub. It's getting porbably 1/2 of the recomended power. I STRONGLY recomend you either get a 4 ohm sub....or a new amp.
I got numbers as low as 25x4 with that amp (from the search I did)...the 160x2 rating is probably even at 2 ohms. It's a VERY small amp....not really to be used for running subs.

What you have going on is just not a good set-up.

ok heres how it works: if you add another 8 hom sub then yoll basically had 6 dB because you get 3 more for doubling hte cone area and 3 more for doubling hte power. thats all theoretically.

if you jsut swap out the 8 ohm sub for a 4 ohm sub then youll gain 3 dB, once again theoretically...because youre doubling the power.

Well if you would hear what it sounds like youd think otherwise because the sub is hitting hard and hitting low notes well. Ive been running this setup for the past 2+ years and no problems.

So what if I get a Mono channel amp like this....http://www.crutchfield.com/S-q4uJfWWcHSR/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=130&I=489HA700M

and run 2 8ohm subs(down to 4ohms) would that be good?

I would go with something at least around the 300-350 range...but yeah....thas a better idea.

^^This one would probably be the best deal for you. It would work very nicely.

Some of them are the same...just different prices. Good luck. :)
