View Full Version : My Golf...
So I've been hiding boxes from my mother lately and I have about 6 boxes to hide next week. ;) I haven't posted much of my new car. I went from these: http://zomb.alphite.ca/redgra/1.jpg http://zomb.alphite.ca/redgra/2.jpg
to my baby-mini-van as people like to call it. :P base 2.0, not 1.8t or vr6, does all I need it to.

Exhaust

Jacked the car up and put it on in my gravel driveway wearing shorts and a thin white undershirt. First time heh. VID? http://zomb.alphite.ca/golf/web/1.MOV a decent 2.1 system pics up the audio very well, basic speakers didn't do the audio any good when I tried.
Wheels
Flik Justices in anthracite finish, 18x8 on all four. 225/40R18 Toyo/Proxes Fz4 tires. I'm hoping these arrive by Wednesday so I can get them on Wednesday night. We will see how she sits, maybe a drop if it looks funky.

Headlights
Yeah, I spent 345.00 on some head-lights with fog lights and bulbs, switch and wire-harness.

They're smoked projectors, a bit of a euro touch. :) I COULD get some HID bulbs now and have some decent HIDs for 1/4th the price, but I wont.
and just ordered these:

:)
Tint will be 20%. More to come soon. Pics of the car next weekend when current work is done. :)
edit:
Other future "mods" will be a blue illuminated shift knob (factory knob but the numbers and lines on the knob light up blue like the dash) and a 7" touch screen car-PC in the dash. A Mac Mini will replace it probably next spring or sooner. For now, for audio I have this 20gb cartridge box that works with the factory CD changer buttons. http://www.phatnoise.com/vw/ sold the infinity 10" subs. I don't like listening to music loud really.

looks nice. one question though...the exhaus tips don seem to line up right...os that just an illusion?
I added another pic of the exhaust after I set the car down. It stayed straight like that for a day or so before twisting.. It was loose for 2 weeks. I finally had it tightened yesterday and lined up correctly. :) Thanks for the comment. Cheers

Looks good, those wheels and headlights rock.
I've always like the Golf GTi and the R32 or whatever its called. But after working on other people's VWs I couldn't bring myself to purchase one.

You know my daughter's grandfather could never stop talking about his old diesel power Rabbit. To be honest the diesel VWs have just as much performance potential as the gasoline powered ones.

... Paula's father has had several and I could get very attached to their feul economy and how long they seem to last without anything reaslly major happening ... he had an 84 (I think it was) that could EASILY go over 850 miles to a tank of diesel ... he newest one, a 98, isn't quite as good being it is down aroung 500 or 600 (they redesigned the turbo systems a couple times inbetween making them have a little more bottom end power but of course they lost fuel mileage) ... anyway, when I have a need for a new car, I might go have another look :)
Yeah, A TDI would have been nice. No difference in looks to the 2.0 anyways. I drove from my house to niagra falls and back on one tank. 415 miles on the odometer when I pulled into the gas station. I was coasting in neutral and clutching for 5 miles up and down windy roads looking for a gas station 10 miles from home.
I just can't wait to get it all put on the car. On July 16th and 17th, Waterfest is going on in New Jersey. 10 hour drive. We will probably leave at 6pm on friday night the 15th, drive until midnight or 1-2am, sleep in our cars or get a cheap motel and then kill the morning and arrive by 9am. I have to work monday morning at 9, so it looks like I'm leaving at like 5-6pm sunday and going straight to work ;) It'll be worth it though. Lots of pics IF I hopefully make it. We have a guy with a new supercharged VW bug which is slammed and the works, an overhauled 98GTI which is stripped to metal at the moment with a rebuilt engine and new two-tone paint (silver to blue) and re-done body-kit, a couple more cars are going with us as well as an Audi A8 if we can get him to go. I'm sure we will join many people on the way as this is the biggest VW event in the USA.
You guys know how it is to be in a car club. I drive my stock golf everywhere, and every single VW owner who feels the same waves at me and gives the VW sign. It was the same way when I had my Grand Ams. You join a club and don't even have to sign up. :)

Nice car....Very clean, and a great choice in wheels and headlights.
On the subject of VW's...A friend of mine is building an old VW rabbit. He calls it "Silly Rabbit." He only built it to shock the heck out of some people. By the time it's done...the thing should put out around 300 horses at the wheel.
If ya want to take a look at it...pm me. (not sure if I give the link in this thread) I'll give you the link to his site. There is an entire thread dedicated to the restoration and modification of this un-finished rabbit..
Ps...He has over 200 hours in the engine bay.... alone. It's truly amazing.

The thread-creator said you can post it, no problems heh.
That's one sweet project. Can't wait to see it finished. My friends 98 GTI looks just like that at the moment, he has just 3 weeks to finish all of it (rebuilt motor, gutted etc) and get it back together.

A guy Allen that Chad (Y2KGPGT) and I knew used to have a race ready VW Rabbit GTi. It was prepped for Ice Racing but on the streets could pulled the inner rear tire off the ground in tight corners. Too bad it went though the ice one year when it died midtrack and a tow truck came to jump it.
The older dubs are crazy. There's a MK3, 96 jetta for $950 down the road. I'm so tempted to go buy it. The older jettas are so damn nice, especially when done up properly. An old rabbit on the other hand, you could get a bit more creative with one of those. I'd love to have one but I can see more work and money then what I would want to spend on one.
Anyways... DAMMIT, I can't wait to come home from work one of these days to see the 6 boxes on my back patio. My car will be lifed up in a matter of seconds! :) I'll worry about painting callipers another day. I just want to see how it sits with the new rims, and all smoked out and decide if it needs a drop. I'll paint the callipers when I replace the springs. No money for a whole new suspension. Would be nice though. :p
7 boxes.... ;)

12 days later, my rims have finally been shipped.
Crap service. I even missed the July 4th sale, which I should still get because they took so damn long. 140.00 total off the price :(. I hate.

I've orderd a european switch (7 different ways I can run with my lights on apposed to 2} and a blacked out VW emblem for the rear, blacked out side blinkers, blacked out front bumper markers, 2 blue LED for my day lights (which I'll be able to shut off with the euro switch} and a little key-ring flash light heh...
