I dont think there is anything else i can do.
Today i was doing some general maintence on my car.. and when i went to turn the ignition off.. it stopped... i have a Kewnwood x917 which was top of the line 3 or 4 years ago.. spent an arm and leg on .. And ive tested all my connections all have power and at the right time.. but when i plug in my deck the faceplate comes out and just stops... i remove it.. it goes back to normal .. re install it it comes out halfway ... but no display no sound no nothing...
The real prob i got is im planning a big road trip in Aug.. of about 2000+miles and now it looks like i wont even have a radio to listen to..
So needless to say im extremly frustrated and kinda venting...but its been really hard not to make this deck 1 with the road...

If you cant figure it out by aug.. Just but some cheap cd player. It might not be perminant but it will get you 2000+ miles without having to sing for entertainment.

have you checked all the fuses? My HU lost power a few times randomly. When it happened I took out the fuse on the passenger's side. It wasn't broken but there was some black stuff on the fuse. I just wiped it stuck it back in, and it worked. If you haven't checked that you might want to give it a shot

No tunes on a hour drive would kill me.
NO way I could drive that long without tunes.

check both the cars fuses and the decks fuses. you could probably contact kenwood and they might have some ideas...their customer support is usuall prety helpful.

i already replaced all fuses just in case.. and make it worse kenwood's site is under re construction so it wasnt much help for me... what it does now is.. its a motorized faceplate it goes to the proper postion when the faceplate is removed but when i go to re install it... it only goes half way.. and stops and no power no nothing.. i remove the faceplate and goes back to norm.. just dont turn but it moves

Kenwood USA site has been under "re-construction" for a good while now. I sent them an email describing my frustration with this issue and how it will affect their image in a negative way big time. Never got anything back from them.
My next HU will NOT be a Kenwood! That's for damn sure.

have you tried cleaning the connections on the face plate. a little rubbing alcohol and a q-tip works wonders(or contact cleaner) also clean the contactor on the front of your deck.
have you look at the conectors closly, do any of them seem bent. i had a prob with my alpine where the conectors on the face plate got pinched.

yup i did and i never remove my face plate either...
But i did some looking around but i found out with the DMASK units made by kenwood for a few years have this prob. What it is the ribbon cable that connects the unit to the face plate and every time you turn on the ignition the faceplate flips around and i guess over time it wheres out...
For me to have it repaired is about 110 US parts and labour...and well i dont really have any money to spend.. so it looks like i gotta borrow..
But atm the unit is in the shop still waiting for results but im 95% sure that is what it is

well after some research i found out Kenwood had a prob with thier DMASK units... its a ribbon cable that connects the faceplate to the unit itself that needs replacing.. Or so i read.
Anyways i sent a kinda nasty message to kenwood.. and they asked about the situation i told em exactly.. and even though its 3 years old... they offered for me to send it.. but they will fix it for free even though its 2 years after the warrenty.. and all i gotta do is say attn: whoever it is... thought that was pretty cool of them to offer the thought .. if that is the prob..
But just wanted to say that.. that kenwood would do that for me...
