For starters, I work at Advance AutoParts and I STILL can't find an aftermarket catback dual exhaust kit that fits my 1998 GT 2.4L. I would be eternally grateful if somebody could just give me a proper link to a manufacturer that offers an exact-fit kit for my car. Everything i've seen has been for 99's and up, and when I do find exhausts for 98's they never seem to be for dual. I also come across the muffler a lot but never an entire system. I'm looking for resonator and the 2 mufflers and all proper gaskets.

For whatever reason I don't have much luck on borla or magnaflow or any of those sites, I can't seem to find out if they actually offer a kit SPECIFICALLY for my car. I swear, I have never seen anything so difficult as searching for an aftermarket exhaust for this particular car, I'm losing my mind. Maybe I'm just dumb, but someone please enlighten me.

I'm pretty sure RSM makes a kit that fits our gen (96-98) but personally you would be better off going to an exhaust shop and getting the pipe bent for you. Then just pick up some mufflers and tips and get it all welded up. :)

Yeah RSM makes one for the 96-98 but you have to go there to get it installed. They do not ship it out. I think they pulled it off thier website. It is made on demand and is basically a custom exhaust. Mantapart also has a system but once I think it is made on demand, and only if you are willing to drive to them and let them put it on. Other than that there is no pre-fabed kits for that year. You are going to have to go the custom route(which is basically what manta and rsm did). Most people have had success using a camaro style muffler that mounts transversly. These are easy to find and almost every exhaust company has them. I think thats all your options. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

^Correct. There is no entire cat-back "bolt-on kit" available for anything pre-99.

I realize this is an old post but I thought I would add this for anyone needing Info. Rock Auto has the complete system for these cars less the trumpets. I just put the cat back system in today and it took 1 1/2 hours start to finish. Everything lined up and bolted together and all the flanges were heavy duty thick steel. Cut the trumpets off even with the old mufflers and slid them into the new mufflers and welded into position. The system was manufactured by Merit.

Any more info on this system? Pipe sizing (I assume 2.25"?), sound, etc.

If it's from Rock Auto, then it'll be an OEM replacement system with the original 2.0" piping. Once again, there is no aftermarket performance exhaust system.

I see. It still seems to me like the best route to take in terms of performance and price is to find a muffler you like and get custom piping run.

^Right... actually that's the only option in terms of performance exhaust.

Excuse me, I didn't see in the original post where he was asking for a performance dual exhaust!

People don't generally install dual exhaust to lower performance , but this is a moot point anyway as there's no room to install a 'real' dual exhuast anyway . It's a single pipe with a Y and two mufflers at each end ....

Jim, he's also looking for an exhaust for a 2.4 98 GT, you have a 2000 3400, completely different system. I didn't look at the site, but it sounds like he is referring the OP to the cat-back that he installed on his non-compatible model car.

why put a dual exhaust on a 4 cylinder. it's so much easier just to run a single pipe with muffler and be done with it.....

You are so right, but the car came with it and I like the way it looks.

symmetry. a pipe coming out each side looks better.

just get a single in dual out muffler and get some mandrel bent piping. have two tips of your choice welded on and call it a day.

^probably the best way to do it.
