Fan (Problem or Feature)

Hot day today. Noticed that my temp guage was getting a little higer then usual. Stopped my car at work and shut it off and the guage didnt drop and the engine fan was still running?

Problem or Feature???


I turn the car back on, blasted the heat for a bit and turned it off and it shut off this time.

any ideas.

Feature. The PCM (even the old ones... I've confirmed down to 1994) will keep the fan running for up to 7 minutes when certain conditions are met.

I don't remember the exact numbers (I'd have to look at the GM factory manual), but when coolant temp and IAT is above a certain number it will run the fan after the ignition is off till temps drop or up to 7 minutes.
