Awesome job...did you put the rod inside the fog light housing or what? it looks like you did but still kind of hard to tell...Still an amazing job!!
Dont laugh at my dead bugg'd bumper :) Lol...
You know you're from Canada when... :D
RedGrandAm2003
06-29-2005, 11:45 PM
lmao. w00t go canada eh? :) I just put the rod on the outside of the lens, cuz i spent 2 hours trying to fiqure out how to take the damn thing apart.. so i was just like "Eh.. screw it, put it to the front." lol... i used glue... some "weldbond" glue.. and i e-mailed the company to ask if it'll glue on and hold... and they said it wouldnt... I ree-mailed them and told them they were a bunch of dumbasses but thats besides the point. :) I was semi-inspired by your avatar anyway Ryan. :p
Edit: that last sentence sounds so gay

do you have those wired to a switch or to a constant power source???

Looks awesome, Mike! Wanna make me a set? You know, as payback for me disabling your DRL's? :toast:

lmao! I have one HALF of the rod left.. i could make one.. for you? lol.. Its not that hard to do though... I have a switch... i love the place for it too... You know that empty space on the bottom right of the steering wheel? enough to put.. say a wallet or something in? well i never use it, so just reach your hand in there and tada. lol :p They're LED's so they take NO power. well.. LITTLE power. lol i've left them on for 15 hours and car started up no problem.

Here's the ring by itself... you can see the light from the computer screen makes each little "cut" light up alot.

Wow man..... very cool. Very nice work. I bet that was very time consuming.

Maybe I missed it, but what is that ring? Where did you get it from?
Thanks for the info too! Might have to give it a whirl.

That loosk sweet is it possible to wire them to the foglights?
RedGrandAm2003
06-30-2005, 11:23 PM
to the foglights? yeah. but when the fogs are on you cant see them unless you were to put tape or tinfoil down around where you glue them cuz the light will overpower the LED and wont be visible. as for the ring.. its a window blind thing.. the thing u twist... and put it in the oven for like 30 seconds when its preheated to say.. 300?... annnnnnd... just put it on a pan or something and without twisting the ends, wrap it around the cup and overlap the 2 ends... trim the ends and use a heat gun or put it back in the oven so it'll flatten back out, and reshape it around the diameter that u want (i used a drinking glass) If you wanted to be all "smart" you could find the diameter of your fogs and circumferance and all that bulldonkey.... lol Its 4 inches wide (maybe a lil more) so yeah. lol.
and as for time consuming... it took 2 weeks to do MAINLY because i kept screwing up and running out of "supplies" lol.. i live 40 km away from a major town so i just go day by day getting things i need, and i was lazy. it could be done in a few hours, assuming you know exactly what to do with LEDs/Resistors/BASIC electrical, etc.)

Great job, Mike. I like DIY mods like that.
I have a question. Can you change the LEDs with the rings in place?
I would have used clear RTV to glue them in place. It's waterproof, light shines through it and you can cut the ring free if needed.
RedGrandAm2003
07-01-2005, 11:25 AM
Yeah you can change the LEDs. I had them in there snug fit the first time, cuz i drilled out the ends to exact fit the LEDs, BUT i was soldering the leds to resistors and it just didnt want to work, and the cathode side on both sides wanted to be annoying and broke off. they could have been repaired, but it was too big of deal for 2.99 for a set of 2 lol... so i had to take em out and the plastic is very fragile when theres not alot there so it snapped in the bottom part and well yeah.. that was the end of not needing glue to put them in. So i just put a LITTLE bit of crazy glue.. if i ever need to take them out i'll just heatgun them. lol... I also melted rubber with the soldering iron overtop the little "gap" to protect the LEDs from stones, if any ever hits there. As for glue... I was using what i had available to me. I didnt want to use crazy glue or it'd never come off. lol I was thinking of using that glue where it melts the plastic or whatever. i'm not sure whats it called... i forgot the name.. but it would be hard to take the ring off if i ever had to. I'm thinking of making red angel eyes for the rear reverse lights. It would be legal i assume. because you need red for the rear lights anyway. I dont know it it would look good though. any opinions?
Bjornboy81
07-01-2005, 11:40 AM
I dont' know about red on red...might look better with the blue. Not as legal, but might look better :D
RedGrandAm2003
07-01-2005, 11:45 AM
red on red? Hmm.. I'm not sure how your thinkin i was doin it, but I meant on the reverse lights in the bumper. they're the same as a fog light.. and they're not lit when your driving.... unless your retarded and jam it into reverse lmao.... *shakes head* Good times.. (not with my car lmao) But i took a picture of the switch incase anyone wants to see it.. i couldn't really take a good picture cuz its dark in the slot.

I was thinking red lights with the red car, and they (the rear angle eye's) would be on while driving.
RedGrandAm2003
07-01-2005, 12:12 PM
Oh. Yeah they would be. Unless i was to wire another switch and turn them off if i wanted to.

since i am missing the wire harness for one of the fogs...would it be possible just to wire the led's to the wire harness of the good fog light, then remove remove the light bulb from inside the fog so i don't have any fog lights...then the angel eyes would actually be controlled by the fog light switch??? hope that made sense.....

.............yes...if i understand that correctly, the switch would be controlling the one good harness that is connected to the angel eyes. That'd work.
RedGrandAm2003

Yeah it would work. Just remember to take the bulbs out or you wont be able to see the angel eyes working very well :p

to wire a switch, its quite easy, if your going that way. Heres how i did it:
wired the passanger side angel eye to the drivers side. grounded the other wire to a bolt connecting to the frame, and same with the other side. Took out that rubber thing in the dash, and pulled out the clips of the thing that stays in there with a tiny screwdriver. Drilled a 1/2 hole for the switch and soldered 2 wires to the switch. one wire to go to the power source, and another to the fog. put back the little slot and ran the wires through the fuse panel area, closed it, and ran the wires through to the engine bay between fender/hood. Connected the wire to the fusel panel's positive bolt. you can see if there, its where you can disable your DRL's (for an 03 anyway) and the wire for the fogs, just ran it down through next to the windsheild wiper fluid container do-dad. and soldered 2 wires to the driverside angel eye. (the positive for the other side + switch wire). Hope that makes sense :p oh and for an SE, the easiest way to run the wire between the 2, is behind the grooves on the bottom of the bumper :)
Edit: Oops. Forgot to edit my last post. lmao sorry for double post :)

RedGA2003 - If you did rear angel eyes in red, I would wire them up with the tail lights so they come on when your headlamps or brake lights are on.
Praasch - Instead of taking the fog lights out to put angel eyes in, why don't you do the LED fog light rings like Magyver has?

Thanks for the Idea Dave :) but i dont think i'm gonna bother... They seem to be moulded differently and would be pretty hard to make the ring like that. :p but if i ever do it, i'll take before and after's lol

Just got a good pic. I wish I could turn the street light off though, it makes it look... weird. well.. except the angel eyes of course :p
