I just recently purchased a '90 Grand Am. I used to have one years ago that I bought new while I was in HS. Loved it but once the head gasket blew it was never the same. Now since I commute 70-100 miles a day I figured it would be nice to get another one. Well anyway, all of a sudden my radio stopped working. It's not completely dead. It still powers on but it gets no reception, nothing but static. The screen is blank and when you turn the radio off it doesn't even show the time like it used to. It's weird because it has power and the cassette works but no radio. Hitting the buttons or turning the dials does nothing just more of that static. I thought maybe the head unit was fried so bought another one from a salvage yard and it's doing the same thing. It gets power but no radio reception whatsoever and there's no display. Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe the harness needs to be replaced? Maybe a fried wire? Anything you can do to help would be great. Spending 2-3 hours a day in a car with no radio is driving me nuts.

The cassette works but the AM-FM doesn't?
Not only with the original unit, but with the JY replacement?
Then I think it MUST be the antenna lead. Somewhere under the dash, prolly, or maybe as far back as the antenna base on the fender.
Then again, I don't do audio. :roll2:
Good luck.

Exactly. The cassette works but AM/FM doesn't. You would think it's the antenna but that wouldn't explain why the display is dark as well. It doesn't tell you what station you're tuned to and when you turn off the radio what you should see is the time and that's not there either, like when the car is turned off. I'm stumped I tell you.

well in case anyone is interested, it turned out to be a fuse. Not the fuse for the radio but rather for the ECM, which is weird because if it was for the ECM I would suspect that I would have had many more problems than just the radio. In any case, my radio is back, up and running.
