The water pump I install on our malibu is leaking a little around the gasket. What gives?? I can't tell if it's leaking on the engine side or water pump side of the gasket. I did all the right steps. I clean all the old gasket off with a very fine grit sand paper, put a little sealer on the gasket. Errr tomorrow I'm gonna take it back to the 'zone and swap it out.

Did I forget to do something? I put the bolts back in finger tight in a star pattern. Then tighten down in a star pattern.

Nope, sounds like you did everything right. The key maybe "zone" as in Autozone. Sorry, I have never had much luck with thier engine or electrical parts.

Yea , but saving 20% just cost you how many more hours of your time. :walk: shoe leather express sucks man. I hope you get it figured out and just curious but what kind of sealent did you use? My personal best is Indian Head sealer, ive never had one leak yet.

permatix (sp) 2 Number 2.

has been around for a long time, used right I have never seen it leak.

Permitix 1..........is NOT WHAT you want. it will harden.

Permatix 2 will never completely harden. messy stuff sticks to what it touches. In my opion it is the best to use for what you are doing.

Also putting on too much of any sealer can make High spots and Low spots.

I haven't did it yet, 4th of july man :) I have Permatix, but it's not number two. It says it can work on water pumps. I will get some number 2

I'm getting good at replace the water on our 3100 :) After looking at the great wall of Permitix at the zone (yea i know) I saw some Permitix that was made only for waterpumps and t-stats. It was some grey stuff. I also got the belt tool. I got tired of renting it. Not bad for $20.

ok I look at the coolant today was very low i guess their was air in the system. I top it off. It does not look like it's leaking, I don't feel any coolant under the pully. I don't see any coolant on the a/c pully. But i will pully the waterpump pully off in a week to make sure. Mom never goes anywhere in it.
