You definitely need to leave the MAF sensor in place. Without it the Computer cannot do it's job thus the car will run like crap and your check engine light will run constantly. Here are a couple of example pics on how it should look when your done.

When you put the MAF back on hopefully it will run ok, but if it still doesn't, check the IAT sensor that goes into one of the tubes. I had a similar problem when converting my wai from the winter back to my cai for the summer. All I did was add the extended pipe and it was stalling and running like crap. We took the whole inkate off and the car started and ran somewhat better than it did with everything hooked up. The IAT sensor looked a bit mangled for some reason and a piece of the plastic dome covering the sensor had collapsed and was actually touching the sensor. With that little piece removed we slowly hooked everything back up and it seems to be running fine now.
Just check your sensors and make sure they are still ok.
Here is another pic for ya to look at. It's mine which should look pretty close to yours.

Good point. The closer you can get the IAT to the filter, the better. PFYC sells and extension cable for the GA to help with the relocated IAT.

Hey guys:
Does the CIA offer a worthwhile gain in power?
Recommended brand?
Is the filter as effective as stock at blocking fine dust?
Thanks,

Yes, but low end response / torque may not be as snappy due to the loss of velocity . Most of the gain is in the mid to high rpm HP . I think the stock air box is better for daily driving as most of time your in the lower range anyway . But it will offer more top end power if that's your goal ..... :)
