stock alarm system on a 98

I dont even know if this is the right place to post this, but i figured I'd give it a try anyways. On my 98, there is a factory alarm system installed, but it was not installed by the factory. It has the GM logo on it, so i know its a GM product. I also feel it was not a factory install, and most likely not a dealer install because the switch was put into the dash very "unprofessionally". Is there any way to tell by looking at the system if it was the one that would have come in this car from the factory, or if its one from a different vehicle? When i bought the car used, there was no mention of an alarm system and i got no key fob for it. Hell, I didnt even know it was there for the first 6 months.
I've looked at the box and can not see a part number or anything, and the local dealer hasnt been able to help me out either. So if anyone can help me figure out that this is truly the factory GA system, Id greatly appreciate it.

That was probably somethin the original dealership had installed for the original owner of the car. Probably charged them an amr & a leg for, and never worked right. lol I say remove it and have a REAL alarm system installed professionally.

i was debating on doing that.. lol.. but as the car goes in for paint next week i cant afford a real alarm system :-/.. i was hoping that if i could get a remote for that one, itd do for now as its all hooked up it seems.

i just bought a viper alarm with a 2 way remote, etc. i <3 it.
