Well I dynoed my car over the weekend, at a local dyno day for the hell of it. Here are some pictures of the car on the dyno. Im disapointed with the numbers But i made 122hp and 131ft/lbs. I was hoping for 130hp and like 135ft/lbs.

what mods do you have besides the Ho intake?

thats all i have right now, ether thats killing my power, or the fact that my ECM needs replaced. Or something is wrong inside the motor.

that sounds about right, spyhunter put down 128stock iirc and his is 5spd

wow, i guess those claims from GM of 150hp and 155 tq form the factory are a bit off, either that or the engine's so old, its lost a bit of power... I know mine feels like its got more than 125hp/tq... maybe I should dyno mine just for the hell of it?

I know what I must do someday, is race my 97 GAGT against my grandmother's 01 SE... that would be interesting. I just need to convince her that I need her car for a day or so. Hahaha

I belive you lose about 20% thru the tranny.

Automakers rate HP/Torque at the crank, not at the wheels. You lose a percentage of that in drivetrain (trans, etc) loss. And I doubt it is due to age... the Quad 4 family ages rather gracefully in the performance department.

I never knew that automakers rate the hp/tq at the crank. that would explain it all. Damn! But im glad the engine ages rather gracefully.

Dyno Day Video (http://www.pittspeed.com/media/videos/file_info/download1.php?file=Dyno_Day_low.wmv) <-- Save As

Well heres a video of the dyno day from the summer. Obviously all the other board memebers have way faster cars then me. oh well, i still enjoyed the event. The accord wagon was badass.

You can hear how the HO manifold changes the whole sound of the car.

Funny, I never knew your car was green.

Dont be too dissapointed over the numbers. I'm almost afraid to dyno mine (Besides the cost), for fear of actually knowing how non-powerful it really is.

One thing I can say though, is that your (and mine) 1/4 mile times are right where they should be.

What does it cost to run on a Dyno?
IDK if there is a place to do it around here?

15.8 is where it should be on a GT??? Damn. :( I hope mine will be better than that.

Couple things...I'd also like to know how much Dyno tests run, and also, How much HP do you lose through the tranny on an automatic? I'm thinking 20% or so.

Urweak, are you planning on any performance mods?...this could be a nice before/after dyno run :)

15.8 was run at Lebannon Valley Dragway, which is at high elevation on a very hot and humid day. Running at a track closer to sea level on a cooler day (or even evening) should get you a much better time. A stock 1999-2005 GT typically runs between 15.5 and 16.2 seconds. Some have run better, but it's a rare occasion.

Going price is usually between $70-80 for 2 or 3 pulls.

Dynojet locations...

Yea, typically calculated about 20% loss on auto, 15% loss manual.

On the 1/4 miles times... remember that many things vary greatly when drag racing...
1. the car (some are "factory freaks" while others act "tired"
2. driver (racing experience, launch)
3. track conditions (track surface adhesion, temp, altitude, humidty, etc)
Point is, different people can have different results with the same mods on the same car. A range for the car would be more accurate, and Shawn's GT is within the range IMO.

Thanks Matt, a lot easier than I thought it would be.
I didn't look too much, they don't have performance requirements do they?

Yea, I actually looked up LVD altitude and weather conditions for the track day last year and used an altitude/weather condition calculator... that day LVD was equivelent to something like 3200' above sea level. Using that the calculations supported ET variances by up to half a second. Not a day to set records... but still my favorite track day so far since I was able to get a dozen or more runs, tune the car faster, and tweak my launch.

No prob. It's also common to have portable dynos set up at popular dragstrip or car show events.

No. Although I doubt they would let you in with a golf cart or something. The portable dynojet last year at the Carlisle GM Nationals had everything from a stock S10 pickup, to some classic muscle cars pumping out 400+ HP.

My 15.857 was actually from Albany 2004, but it was equally hot/humid. I ran a 15.8 again last year too, but it wasn't quite as good as 15.857... I think it was ~ 15.87. Not quite my personal best. But still pretty consistant a year later. :)

I was thinking about getting dyno'd. I should do it soon, while it's still in the 30's :D

Hopefully I'll get around 155 - 160ish HP...we'll see :)

Thanks for the info guys

Still in progress.. I have much to add, especially some of the things I was wondering the first time I dyno'd.

Im guessing you are running an intercooler, do you have the demensions on it, and how well does it fit under the bumper?

This is the 6" intercooler that uses the 25" wide core with centered inlets. Details on it:

Core size: 25 wide X 5.875 tall X 2.75 deep

Overall: 30 from outside of end tank to outside of end tank X 6.5 tall X 3.125 at the thickest

Standard Piping: 2.5 OD X .065 wall X 2 long (2.25" OD available)

There are nine cooling rows and eight fin rows on this intercooler.

The cooling rows on this intercooler are internally finned.

The end tanks have a satin finish.

The threaded mounting points are steel. There are three inserts in the top and three inserts in the bottom.

The intercooler comes with mouthing brackets and bolts.

straight from johnny race car
hope that answers your question
