I will be painting the Rims, but I have two options, I either want to do them just silver, or will paint the spokes darker and leave the lip the chrome. They are the 5 spoke chrometechs and I am only painting cause they are pitted and look like hell. Here is a quick chop with them darker.
The painting is most likely a temporary fix until I can afford my aftermarkets.
Let me know what ya'll think.

I have seen a picture of a red gt w/ the rims powder coated black.. it was the SH*T. They looked really nice. I choose the first pic :)

I really like the first photoshop, looks sweet...
Sorry, but I don't think that those black wheels on Magyver's car look that great. Yea they are cool and everything, but it just doesn't do it for me.
On the other hand, what if you could have them refinished with a metal color? I saw them do some copper stuff on American Chopper where they dipped it in a bath. I really like the gunmetal type color on MikeNice 's car. That color with the chrome lip would look great IMO. Let us know how it turns out, I am definately interested.

When I can afford the aftermarkets its definitely black or gunmetal with a polished lip, but rims look like hell now and I won't be able to get new ones till sometime this fall.
When the car gets back from the shop (getting rear quarter panel fixed and SC/T put on while its there since I haven't had time). But when it gets back I figure I'll paint calipers and do Rims at the same time.
I'm thinking if I can find like a gunmetal metallic paint to use that, and then I'll just mask the lip off since that part isn't bad, then a few coats of clear.

Stopped in at autozone today to get some tack cloths a few sheets of sand paper, and some silver vinyl paint for the interior, saw some blue caliper paint I picked up, and found the exact wheel paint I was looking for. Its a metallic graphite, tested it on a plastic surface with wheel clearcoat and here is the result. This will be going on next monday or sooner depending on when the car is done. Not sure if I should do it all or leave a chrome lip.
Its alot darker in person.
*Note: Paint was still wet and surface wasn't sanded smooth, will have a much more shiny and smooth finish on wheels.

Yea, I was thinking about doing that to my lame-ass 3 spokes, since im still too poor for nice rims. I think it looks really damn good, and it will look even better with the sc/t kit. Good luck and I hope it comes out looking as good as they chop! :thumbup2:

I did a half ass chop of mine with the only shot of my car that I have here at the office... its not that grea,t i just wanted to compare to yours, If i do paint it, im doubtful it will look as good as yours... oh well, lets hear it for black-out GAs!!

Its hard to get it reflective right in the chop with the black. But if its more of a gloss black I think it will turn out good.

eh.....
im skeptical of painting rims. if i did mine, i'd have them powdercoated, but i want some 18"s that im just going to have to start saving for :(

I would have them powdered but since its the plastic chrometechs and they get baked when powder coated I don't think it can happen, and since they can't come off, well yeah.
I was and am still skeptical of painting them, but anything is better than what they look like now. And the paint I have has a nice reflective metallic finish so it should be alright.
And I'm saving for some nice black or gunmetal 17's but want a fix till then. And then these will just become winter wheels.

Yea, as long as the paint is reflective it will look good, the only question is how well the finish can hold up against the constant raping from weather/etc

that and will the paint stick to the rims which are coated already... but i think you will have more of problem with that than me, since mine are not chromtechs

Magyver did it and it stuck fine. I have duplic-color wheel paint and clear coat, its supposed to hold up to weathering and everything fine. So some sanding and some nice smooth coats and a few of clear I think it will come out pretty sharp.

Says its supposed to be pretty resistant to chipping and weather. I got the graphite color, looks like a gunmetal. I was going to get black but I don't really like the chrometechs in black, but I think the gunmetal would look sweet.
And If I decide I don't like it I can just sand down again and do it silver like some of the 5-spokes came stock.

Just found this, Pacman did a How-To on GAGT. These are his pics, he used the same color I have so this is the color it should turn out.

I think if you leave the 3 things on each spoke chrome it would definately look good. Keep the lip idea too. Add some chrome lugs and you'll be set. And definately post up some pics when your done.

Something to think about, we will know for sure whats going down by sometime next week or sooner depending on fast it gets done. My mom used to work at this shop so everybody knows and likes us so it may get done a little quicker :)
