Ok, I'm having a problem with my amp. Its an Alpine 4-channel amp, can't remember the number but it is the VPower Series and pumps 40 watts per channel. I spent about 6 hours today installing it in my car only to have it not work once I turned on my car.
Here is the problem, the amp isn't turning on and it isn't getting enough volts. I used a volt meter on the battery and it was 12, I checked the voltage on the fuse holder near the battery and it was 12 on both ends. I checked the voltage on the back of my cd player on the remote turn on and it was also 12. I then checked the terminals on the amp, grounding the volt meter on my car and on the ground cable for the amp. For both the power cable terminal and the remote turn on terminal the volt meter only read 3-5 volts. I have no idea what could be the problem. Im also not sure if I put the remote turn on right and that might be why it isn't turning on.
All help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I narrowed it down a little. I tried switching around the remote turn on and that didn't do anything so i think it either has to do with the ground wire (which i dunno if the ground wire could cause it to lose volts) or the fuse/power cable. I messed around with the fuse but I don't have a voltage meter on me right now so I can't check any of that out.

try checking the continuity and resitance of all you wires to make sure they arnt damaged. also test you power wire and remote wire to gound and make sure they arnt shorting out. also check the fuses on you amp and one your power cable to make sure there ok.
also i assume you made a proper gound but to make sure check the resistance from your ground wire to the ground on your battery it sould be pretty low.
those are the general things ive seen when amps dont turn on.
one more thing when you got 3-5 volts on the remote line is that on the amp termial with the remote wire hooked into it?

Ok, I'm not sure how to check the continuity and resistence on the wires. Is this easy to do? Please help with this. I think I made a proper ground but I can check that.
When I get the low voltage on the remote line it is when it is connected to the amp terminal.

Ok, I'm still having troubles even though I got a chance to look at some stuff with a voltage meter. I checked the ground and it is grounded properly. I tried moving around the remote line to a few different cords behind my HU and nothing. When I turn on my car and put in a CD or something, I measure the voltage on the remote line and the power line. Both are around 4 volts. Whats the problem?

to messure the the remote line unhook it for your amp and deck and measure the resistance end to end, it should be realy low like 1ohm. also measure the voltage on the remote wire at the end you hook up to the amp but when its not hooked up to the amp same with the power wire. (one lead on the wire the other on the ground)
how much resistanve did you get from you ground to the ground on your battery
also did you look at the amp fuses and measure the resistance of them

Ok, I checked everything and it checked out. As it turns out it was a bad ground connection. I drilled a new hole and attached the ground and everything was fine. Not quite sure how I missed that, could have sworn it was fine lol.
Thanks for all the help, now all I have to worry about is that I think I blew one of my 6x9's.
