alrighty, today I layed down in my trunk for about 30 minutes, which is a long time in 105* oklahoma heat, trying to figure out how to take the rear seat out so that I can get to the speaker but no such luck, I saw a little "d" lookin thing from inside the trunk and it looked as if I could lift the seat up and then push down but that didnt work either, I dont think they were meant to come down very easilly....help is appreciated.

first you take out the lower section, there are two 12-13mm bolts around the foot well areas (if you sit in the seat behind the driver side facing foward like you would do normaly, reach your hand forward touch the edge of the seat, and then feel down towards the floor, they bolts are right where the seat bottom ends and the carpet parts starts) remove those and the bottom portion comes out, next get a star head socket (dont know what size) remove those (they hold the seat belts in place) then the rings that are attached to the bolts are free, slide the set back up towards the room and pull out. (funny thing is, i just did this today to get my old speakers out to return them)

cool, thats what im wanting to do, i figured i shouldnt be in a huury to go buy speakers if I cant get to them since my grand am doesnt have rear speaker grills, I think when I put my new ones Ill cut the carpet cardboard stuff and put a grill there to help project the sound better, any reason I shouldnt do that, the grill would screw right into that stuff no problems,i think??

Make sure you get the proper torx bit for the 2 lower bolts on the seat. (It's either T-50 or T-55, don't remember offhand) They strip easy... trust me.
Learn from my mistakes (on my first car)... leave the speakers bottom mount. Remember, it's just rear fill, they should be faded down... focus on the front speakers instead.

Personally I wouldn't put in the grills. Less they see the better. I do not think you would hear any sound differance. Plus when ever you sell the car you may want to take your speakers out and put back the old ones.
I know where Enid is, I use to have some friends there I would go see about twice a year.
I live in Tulsa, actually a small town outside of Tulsa called Glenpool.

yeah that is a good point about people not being able to see that Im gonna have high dollar speakers in my car, especially since it sits at the highschool unattended 7 or 8 hours a day. I just thought maybe the sound would project better with grills. but id rather my sound be dampened a little than have no speakers at all after someone makes off with them.

well on my moms car I have way better speakers in the back than the front and it sounds really good, probably the main reason I have better speakers in the back is because of the availability for componets systems in the back, and its the same way for my ga. I can only get componet for the rear. but im still gettin pretty nice speakers for the front, its just that the 5 1/4" speakers that are in those 4"x6" things dont put out much bass, just mids and highs.

yea, dont cut holes for the speakers, that why people arent going to know you have upgraded speakers that they might want to steal.
I think the torx bit is a t47
