Hopefully I am posting this in the right forum. I am wondering Exactly what Electric trunk release can be used on the 96-98 GAs? I don't have one installed. Just the pull cable one. I want to get one that can be hooked into my Prestige car alarm.
I have searched ebay and found 3 different style trunk releases but I don't want to buy them and they not work.
Like this one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7984813487&category=33721
Any help would be appreciated!!!!!

The "universal" kits are a pain to install, and aren't the cleanest looking either. Most assume a standard manual key, so in most cases it'll render the pull cable useless.
Factory keyless w/ trunk release was an option from at least as far back as 94. If you can track down the electric solenoid assembly from a 94-98 N-body with this option, it will be an easy & clean setup. Remember not to cut the pull cable - you'll need the entire assembly (cable, lever, and the "inside" of the trunk lock assembly, not the key tumbler tho)

^ :agree: First make sure you you don't have the stock solenoid already. I never had the stock keyless entry/alarm but I had the solenoid. So all I did was wire up a relay to my aftermarket alarm and now I have keyless trunk. :)

All I have is the pull cable one and I don't like It! I want to get rid of it. I am looking for a just the electric pop. I already had my subs and amps stolen and don't like having to use the cable. Thats even more easier than just busting the lock out like they did. I am having the trunk lock hole just sealed. I am gonna check out some junkyards today and see if I can find that solenoid.
Thanks

Well by the time I got the junkyard today they were closing. Do you guys know if there is anywhere online to find the Actualy GM trunk release actuator/solenoid?
Thanks

Ok I got the trunk release from the junkyard today. Now the question is how do I give it power and have the button work? There is one wire that comes from the electric release and 2 wires that come from the button. A diagram or step by step instructions would be nice.
Thanks

my guess is power goes through the switch to the wire on the release and then is grounded to the trunk lid by the bolts that hold it. Because the switch is a momentary one. so wire a hot wire to one wire on the switch. then run the other wire on the switch to the wire on the release then mount it. if im wrong someone please correct me.

I really didn't have time to mess with it so I took it to a local alarm and rim shop and had them install everything to the alarm and to the button. Thanks for the help.
