My wife is buying a Scion xB.

She has been wanting one for quite some time now, So we went to the local Scion dealership and took one for a test drive; Actually I drove it because it was a 5 speed. My impressions of it?

WOW. Even with 3 adults and the A/C on, it acelarated quite well for the size of the engine...the engine BTW, is 1.5 liter, 108 HP of fury =P and its well known this engine is bulletproof. The ride was great. No. It was EXCEPTIONAL. Everything inside and out is high quality. There is alot of room to strtch out in this car...the rear seats alone fit our 6' 5" salesperson, and the headroom is like having a cathedral over you. I honestly thought this car was going to be a crappy bottom barrell Toyota, but as you have read I am quite wrong.

But get this: This Scion dealership had only 1 of each model available for sale, all the rest have been reserved or sold. The one Sonia wanted (Black Cherry with an A/T) was sold in a day. Right now the waiting period for a 2006 Xb is 8-12 weeks...for a large dealership. Smaller ones can be up to 4 months!

Thankfully, they are getting and reserving for Sonia a Silver 2005 with an A/T. We should see it in about 3 weeks.

I guess I should also mention the Xb is the box looking one.

Personally I don't like the looks, but from what I hear from others and now you its supposed to be a really nice car. Like the Aztec, many people don't like the looks but its really a very nice car.

I also find the looks of the xB to be...well...gross, but I guess there is a huge aftermarket for Scions.

I do want to see pictures, though, maybe you can change my mind!

im not sure about the XB's but on the Tc's you can get them with a supercharger and a bodykits and bunch of other stuff, which is kinda cool from the factory

What's amusing is Scion (aside from the tC) has not "hit" the demograpic, yet the non-demo likes it for the reasons you mentioned. I mean, hell, buy it for the Toyota workmanship!

i want a tC 5 spd supercharged. bad... the xB's aren't my cup of tea though. they are really roomy though. i sat in one at NAIAS and it was like getting into a small RV.

The old "press" Scion was supposed to be "anti-ad" meaning it would be spread about by word of mouth, not by TV and radio ads. Sure seems like they followed that mentality:shake:

Yes true, but the Xb makes more efficient use of that space.


On another thought, I see people are very dividied on the looks of the Scion Xb. Either they hate or love it...and you know what? Thats a good thing, its one of the reasons why I married my wife...she would never, if she had the money, drive a beige four cylinder Camry or Malibu. Too boring. Too....utilitarian.

I don't know if Jay mentioned this but before we test drove the Scion xB - I did test drive a Pontiac. i test drove the vibe. it was decent. But not "quite" what I wanted.
If I only had a camera to capture his exptression after the xB test drive. He was very impressed. I can't wait til it comes in! Except I'll have to get something girlie - like a pink steering wheel cover So Jay doen't steal it on weekends!!!

LMFAO! My girl just got an '03 2dr Accord and everytime I drive it, I have to take her pink girly flowers down from the rear view mirror. She gets mad at me. Even if she's in the passenger seat, I have to take them down. Then she gets even more pissed. I just can't drive knowing those things are there and other people are probably laughing.

Those sit on a Camry frame, same ABS, Tracktion control, Same...same for a lot of stuff. They refuse to follow ruts in the road.

Other than the lack of power I'm not suprised you liked it. Also there about 10 grand less then a equally equipped rig.

Well, last night we picked up the car...it came in a week early. Runs and looks great, and Sonias face started hurting from grinning so much. In fact, I had to drive it to where we ate because she felt she was too giddy to drive - D.W.G....Driving While Giddy, I suppose. Tonight she taking pics, we should have them up soon.

Its funny how many people just plain stare at the car while driving. Love it or hate it, you cant help but notice it. And being that iits so uncommon, its like she belongs to a very eccentric family now. That in itself makes it worthwhile.

There is an Xb near my house that is pretty sharp. It was painted bright silver with black rectangles on the roof and back doors so it looks like a stainless steel toaster! Got knobs painted on it and everything. Cracks me up every time I see it.
