Well im not here to knock the brand or even the headunits... its more less a warning.. but here it is
A few weeks ago i was working on my car requiring me to start the car and shut it off a few times... sort of thing. Anyways i go back in the car and see my Kenwood Excelon x917 headunit (3 years ago was thier best and rated one of the best on the market) also has a flip down faceplate.. was just stuck in the flip down postion. Was curious why turn on the ignition and it goes back up and doesnt power up... take the key out back down and stays...
To make a story shorter... it was an internal part (ribbon cable) was busted .. its what connects the faceplate to the inside of the unit.. and after repeted use is broke.. and couldnt send the signal to the unit once it got flipped down.
Took it to my audio guy.. and he said ya very common prob on these units cost 100$ cdn to fix...
Waited 2 weeks got it all fixed and repaired for 100$ and now working just fine. But the owner was saying they dropped the Kenwood lineup in thier store because since the year i had bought mine Kenwood's quality has dropped many times over.. and for the 2005 year they bought 100 headunits for initial order... out of all those 24 came back and had to be shipped off back east to get repaired.. and he said he will never again carry that brand since it only gave them a bad rep. for having it.
Considering they have sold JVC products and on average sell about 40-50 units a month they have never had one come back for repair...
So anyone considering Kenwood..... just think i warned ya all
