I installed an aftermarket HU several months ago. It has been running great along with 2 subs. Recently though my battery was drained, and when I jumped it the hu wouldn't turn on. I yanked the fuse on the passanger's side, and when put it back in there is a loud humming from the GM Class II Data bus Interface(thing you have to wire with your hu to keep your chimes from going crazy). The humming will last about a minute, then it goes away, and still no power to the hu. Does anyone know what's going on?

You might have fried your harness... :(
Or, you might have blown a fuse on the back of the HU itself... Did you check that out yet?

I doubt it is a fuse in the back of the hu, the anti-theft light still works but I'll check tonight

nope it wasn't a fuse. I also chatted with some people from Crutchfield They told me to try and unplug it for 10 seconds with the doors shut and see if that reprogrammed it. Neither solved it. And the door chimes don't work either, I don't think I mentioned that earlier.

I bet the harness is fried, then. See if there's anyway you can get a free replacement, if not, I really don't know what to tell you then.

which harness are you talking about and what could have caused it?

I believe he's talking about your aftermarket wiring harness... a power surge could of fried it.

Would I have to go through the maker of my hu to get another one or would that even be possible? If it is the aftermarket wiring harness though wouldn't my door chimes work?

aftermarket hu (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=7988148028&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT) grand am harness (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=7988281947&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT) A combo of both of these should do the trick, right?

I hadn't noticed this yet because I haven't needed to drive it. When I signal to turn right everything is ok, but when I signal to go left, it blinks a gazillion times a minute, like when you barely move the blinker lever and hit that 'sweet spot'. I guess that would cancel out the hu wire harness, right? I think I'm going to take it to a shop this weekend.

I'm not going to be able to have a pro look at it this weekend. I was curious what would happen if I put the stock hu back in, and everything was fixed minus the blinker problem. I'm lost on this one

I know I'm bringing this out from the dungeon but I figured if someone else with the same problem it might be useful. I called Metra about a month ago and they solved my interface problem. You have to 're-learn' your aftermarket interface if the battery has been unplugged for a bit. What you need to do is unplug the wires from the interface then let it sit a bit. Put your key in the off position, plug the wires in, then turn your key to on, off, on, off, and on and then your set. By the way, the people at Metra are great people to work with!
