what would it take to swap the ebrake out of a 96-98 into a 93 grand am gt? my car currently has the foot pedal ebrake but i want to have the handle brake and i was wondering if i got an ebrake from a 96-98 grand am is it just a matter of mounting it and connecting the cables back to the ebrake on the drums??

May be possible, but not easy. I researched this option a few years ago. After measuring the junkyard console/shifter/e-brake ratchet mechanism I found the following issues:

1. Parking brake cable - the ends of the cable are different. The 94-95 end looks similar to a brake cable on a bike, but the 96-98 has a bigger barrel-like piece crimped on the cable. You'll likely need to replace the entire cable.

2. Re-route wiring for the parking brake switch (for the "brake" dash light)

3. You'll need the 96-98 center console - which alone makes several issues:
-shifter assemblies are different/bolt differently to chassis
-no chassis provisions to mount parking brake mechanism
-no place for power window / mirror switches (if you have these options) on the 96-98 console

You might find a few additional issues as the 92-93 parking brake assembly is different from the 94-95 one that I researched.
