Can i use a regular spray paint on the interior trim of my car? Just wondering if i can do my own interior mods.

it won't turn out as well unless you use plastic primer underneath the normal paint. I'd suggest trying Krylon Fusion brand or else something made by duplicolor. I know the Fusion stuff can be sprayed all by itself because it sticks to plastic. check walmart, lowe's, or any big place and they should have it in a bunch of different color. and its really not that expensive either.

make sure you sand down the pieces first, then primer with several coats, paint several coats, then clear coat. take your time...youll have to look at your mistakes all the time while you driver otherwise.

Fusion is a great paint. Make sure not to put too much on, also let it dry completely before you put another coat on.
I used Fusion when I painted my Xbox and it turned out pretty good for my first go at it. I did get in a hurry and impatient, those are things you don't want to do.

I scrubbed all the pieces with a scotch brite pad and dish soap to remove all dirt and grease. Wash it down with rubbing alcohol just before painting to remove any finger print oils.

I used Dupli-color Mirage system with no primer. I used three coats of paint and three coats of clear. Still looks like new after a year.

Wish I had as good luck with my center console...I did my vent rings and they turned out perfect(to my taste that is) but my center console was weird. I sanded it and it got a fuzzy texture,so now Ive been going all out to get it smooth.

Your fuzzy feel is using too low of a grit of sand paper.... I used 400 grit on my pieces before I wrapped them in vinyl, the fuzzy held the vinyl in place better. Before I'd paint, I used 1000 grit.

I went out yesterday and got the Krylon fusion and decided to try it out on the smallest piece i was going to paint. Well, i didn't listen to all your advises and i was very impatient so i ended up with too many (probly 8 or 9) thick uneven coats with my finger print all over it.
Anyways i think i know what to do now so, i'll do better with the other pieces

I've got pictures but i don't know how to attach them!!!

Hey guys, is there any how i can get the ring around the air vents out so i can paint them? The ring i'm referring to is arrowed

the whole thing comes out by releasing 3 tabs inside the vent. Then once you have it out the ring I think slides off or pops off.

I thought thats what that was. I used like 250 or something like that then went with a 600 grit which made it better but I went to paint it and certain areas popped up and looked like crap. Right now Im fiberglassin' it,should come out shiny and smooth

Yeah. You over sanded. Ya might wanna consider a wet sand method. I tried it, and it worked perfectly.

Back on track.....
For Manny. Please don't tell me you are gonna do your car with yellow paint. I can't see it looking very good. Well.....one thing is for sure. You will have a hard time pulling it all together.

Anyway. Read this thread for the vents.

Personally i think it'll look good, but i don't know. What other color do you think will work?

Depends on the color of your car, and or what... you plan to do with your seats, instrument panel, etc.

My car is black. I'm working on a black and yellow scheme. Sometime down the road i'm going to get yellow and black leather seats. I'm also going to do some exterior mods in yellow, like a mesh grill kit painted yellow, yellow brake callipers, yellow 'wild' vinyl on the sides and on the hood and who knows, maybe yellow underbody neon. I'm just letting my imagine go crazy.

I'm painting the parts slowly (one by one) and i'll try to put up pictures. Here's one

These didn't quite turn out like i wanted them to. I guess the tape I used didn't protect enough cos the edges are kinna screwy

It might turn out pretty decent, but I'd suggest painting the rest of the dash black.
The charcoal color doesn't jive with the yellow.
Just my two cents.

sounds good, but i'm scared to take on that large of a job considering i'm screwing up the small pieces that i'm painting right now. If i'm going to do that, then i probably should get a profressional.

PS: Hey wouldn't that mean painting the rest of the inside(trim) of the car black too?

Probably :D Big job, but I think it'd be worth it.

I hate it when people paint that front defroster... IMO it would be MUCH better black, the yellow must glare off of your window like nothing else. Before you let your imagination go wild, really think about what your doing and if you really think it looks good.

As for messing up the painting, thats only because you didn't take enough time. I really never spray-painted much before I did my interior, but read up enough on it to do it right. I'd suggest if you are having trouble with the edges of the tape, visit Lowe's (or another hardware place) and they should have some special blue masking tape that will work better.

Not trying to get down on you too hard, I think the first few pieces don't look too bad and I like your proposed color theme... I would just like to see you take your time and do it well.

Yea i agree, not looking to bad but take your time and get it right first time around.I also like your color scheme.looking good, but i dont think i would of painted front defroster vent,to much glare.cant wait to see pics when its completed.
