lol cavalier... as a member of the mn-j's i know a little about cavies.... price doesn't sound to bad but i might offer him 3500. their is alot you can do with a cavi check out www.j-body.org anyway my 2 cents

I'll be honest with you, that price seems a little high. I have an 04 Cavalier that I only paid 11k for brand new, and this weekend I bought a second cavalier with 33k miles for $7500, so $4000 for a 98 cavy, even with that kind of mileage seems high. I personall would avoid j-body.org. The people there are rude, any time you post a question or something it turns into a flame war unless you are one of the people who have been on the site for a long time and are all buddy buddy with the mods. I prefer www.clubcav.com. They are a much nicer bunch of people and you don't need your fire extinguisher over there.

And this coming from someone with a avatar(sp?) of a chevy man humping a honda symbol? Must be pretty bad! :roll2:

oh yeah it only has 40000k miles someone i know told me the wrong mileage. and it comes with a extra block, wiseco pistons, eagle rods. it has the toyota cavalier tailights on it. an extra set of tires, and all the parts to change to the 2.3 (HO or W41) Oil pump setup, plus a couple of misc. parts so i think 4k is fair plus after i drove it i was quite impressed on how it ran and how it started after sitting for a couple of weeks, plus i know this guy really well.

I don't see your point on how that makes me rude? I don't go around flaming people or putting them down because they ask a question about their car. On j-body, if you ask a question you get flamed, you post pics your car gets called rice, even if it is stock. Yah, and I am the rude one. :roll2:

Hmmm...I say you should pass. SOme engines (like the 2.4L) are better left naturally aspirated.

Since I own a 2.4....I have to ask what you mean by that? :(

I just feel its not made to be a performance motor like the old QUAD4's or the new Ecotecs...it was mearly ( in my opinion, keep in mind) a stopgap between the 2.

Oh..ok. I pretty much knew that. I thought you were going to tell me the engine it-self is junk. Which it could be. (please god....no) ...I mean I am new to GA scene....so I'm still learning. But thanks for clearing that up.

the 2.4L was based off a performance engine, and sure it is not as stable as the eco, but its not as pussy as an eco, either. Personally, Id take an ld9 over the eco any day, and some may say this is biased since I own one, but no -- I had to drive my mom's POS cavy with the eco for 2 months while my car was dead. It was terrible... maybe it was just that damn automatic transmission holding it back, but the thing never wanted to go when i wanted it to. Sure, I beat a new celica GT 0-100mph with that car, but I could have easily beaten it with the LD9 as well.
Also, the more power down low on the 2.4L makes it more fun to drive on city streets.

Perhaps the power demonstrated is dues to the vehicle. Personally, any A/T mated to car with less than 150 HP is gonna feel like a turd. I have owned a 1997 GA with a 2.4, and now my Sunflower. What I like is that the 2.2 has more linear power delivery, and isnt gasping at high RPMS...and my engine, save for a K&N filter, is bone stock.

I have the 2.4 with a 5 speed in my 97 GA, and my girlfriend has a Sunfire with the 2.2 eco and a five speed.

I have driven both alot, and i would say that the 2.4 and eco are about the same in preformance. They do have diferent feels tho, the 2.4 has a lovely powerband between 3000 and 4500 rpm. But it is sweet when you can keep it in there with the manual tranny.

The Eco is realy nice tho, reliable as all hell and gets amazing milage. It is a lil "wimpier", but is easier to drive. She tries to drive it around faster than me, but she cant keep up. It's got decent pull in the higher rpm tho, and doesnt sound like its gunna shoot a piston through the dash (Crazy old 2.4, gotta love it)

P.S. I will never buy a 4 banger with an auto again, my last car showed me that manual is the way to go with the little engines.

Anywho, the Cav sounds like a lovely little deal if you have the cash, have fun!

Yea, thats the only thing that depresses me about this engine, its short winded, it barely makes it up to 6k without hurting itself... but downshift to 3rd at 40-50mph and its like a whole 'nother world of power until it dies down at 5k again.
